ESPN the Magazine has an article about wanting to break into the sports industry. There's a sidebar with some information on the first steps to get into your dream career in sports. I thought I'd once again add to that by saying that I actually work in sports currently as a director of new media strategy.
How did I do it?
SDSU's Sports MBA. Applications for the class of 2009 are being taken right now. If you'd like to get more information, information sessions are being held at Petco Park August, 19 and September, 18. Or you could leave a comment and I'll respond. There are actually a few Sports MBAers that are also Gaslamp Ballers. Just to give you an idea, we have a couple people with the Padres, a person with the Chargers, a guy over with the Twins, another dude over at the Chiefs, one young lady at UnderArmor, one dude is running Junior Seau's charity foundation. I'm currently Director of New Media Strategy and Fan Engagement and get to work with top people at NCAA Football, NASCAR and others.
If you've ever had an inkling that you might like to get into sports, then I encourage you to check it out!
