Peavy and Hoffman are All Stars

El Peaverino and the Hoff earned much deserved recognition by getting the All Star invite.  It's an honor, no doubt about it.  But still, you can't help but think it is only the All Star game.  Everybody knows its short comings.

Chris Young got the snub, even though he "deserved" it.  Like Clint Eastwood said in Unforgiven, "Deserve's got nothin' to do with it."  When you've got awesome stats, you're 7 feet tall and you love a good ballpark brawl, I'm not sure how nobody notices you.  Their loss.  I'm not sure if it makes me a bad Padres fan, but I'm not getting sucked into the MLB's hype machine with this Final Vote nonsense.

Peavy had the best ERA and record for awhile there and looked to be a shoe in to start the game but the Dodgers Brad Penny just slipped in and stole it from him.  If only we would have knocked him around a little bit last night, then Peavy might have got it.

I'll probably tune in for a few innings, but all the pomp and circumstance of the game drag it out and make me lose interest.  The build up of the D-List celebrity softball, endless Home Run derby and the commercialization of every aspect of the game suck the energy out of me.  At some point I hope the MLB puts the focus back on the game.
