- Today we have Maddux (6-4, 3.84) vs. Cain (2-8, 3.46).
- I don't think we are going to get a big bat and I certainly don't want to ruin my enjoyment of this season by waiting for a trade. If we do get someone a little closer to the trade deadline it'll be somebody I've never heard of from Toronto that will be a minor upgrade to Sledge. I don't think we need the big bat if it's going to weaken our pitching. We're doing okay now and I still think we will win the division. When it comes to the playoffs we don't need an A-Rod or a Pujols, we just need Gonzalez, Cameron or Kooz to act like one of those guys for a few games in a playoff series. Any of those guys can carry a team for brief stints and it's all going to come down to if they get hot at the right time. We know our team can hit, it's just a matter of timing and clutchness.
- Mike Thompson was called up and will be in uniform today. Chase Headly gets sent to AA San Antonio. Is Hensley still struggling up in Portland? I'll have to look that up.
- There's a little bit of drama surrounding "Pride Night" at Petco Park on July 9th.
San Diego Pride is promoting the night as "Out in Petco Park" and the Gay Men's Chorus of San Diego will perform the national anthem before the game, which will be shown on ESPN.
San Diego Pride's response to the hubbub: It's people enjoying a game together, not a drag show.
Those upset about the Pride Night don't like how it coincides with the Floppy Hats for Kids promotion. I'm not really sure what the problem is, maybe they are afraid that children have a weaker immune system and might catch gay. I think if the kids wear the floppy hats then that should protect them. Unless the floppy hats are really flamboyant.
