Dominican Training Facility

The Pads just built a new training facility in the Dominican Republic.  Why?  Because the other one sucked.

John Moores admits to being "pretty disappointed" three years ago when he toured the Padres' training facility in the Dominican Republic.

"I wouldn't eat a meal there," the team's owner said last week.

I bet he would.

"Not everyone we sign is going to reach the major leagues. And we want those who leave the camp without advancing in baseball to take something positive from the experience.

"Many of the kids at the academy will be getting three meals a day for the first time. We're going to teach hygiene and nutrition as well as baseball. There will be instruction in English to help those players who will be advancing to the United States.

Sounds like a good move for the Pads.
