As part of a breast cancer awareness and Mother's Day promotion, the Padres will be playing with pink bats on Sunday.
Now... The Padres have done some wacky things in their time, but I honestly have no idea what the pink bats is going to do that pink armbands can't do just as good. And the whole idea of breast cancer awareness is strange to me in general. Aren't people aware that there is such a thing as breast cancer? And don't think I haven't been affected. Like many of you, I've had relatives and known people who have had breast cancer. It's not a laughing matter.
So I wonder why they would do something like the pink bats. If it were for prostate cancer awareness, it would make more sense. Have the Padres roll up there with their pink bats in all their glory. Padres fan at home could look and see the phallic symbolism in a pink bat and think, I should probably go in and have my prostate checked... Maybe my testes while I'm at it.
Anyways, it's for a good cause, and I'm looking forward to seeing the spectacle, but people need to get used to the idea that just because you have good intentions doesn't mean your idea doesn't suck.
