Wells pulls trade request, likely to retire after 2006
Boston Red Sox left-hander David Wells rescinded his trade request and said Sunday there was a "99.9" percent chance he would retire after the upcoming season.
Wells hopes of becoming a Padre have been shattered. There really wasn't a way to get the deal done, because the Padres were insisting that the Red Sox take Woody Williams and part of Wells contract. It's too bad we couldn't have worked him into the Loretta trade, just to balance it out a little bit in our favor.
