The title of this post is the text message I got from a Gaslamp Baller right after the Padres managed to not win their final game of 2006. I forget which Gaslamp Baller sent it, but I was a little hurt that anybody would think that my friendship doesn't carry over through the offseason.
It's a little bit of a relief now that it's over. I feel like I can properly enjoy baseball games again instead of watching the Padres not live up to their potential. As you all can attest, when you devote an extreme amount of time and energy towards something totally not in your control, it can become stressful. Not only that, people think that when your team loses, you'll be especially devastated. The nice thing about baseball is that the pain was spread out over four games as opposed to a couple of hours. If the Padres had won last night and weren't able to manage a win tonight, I very well might have thrown myself into a wall. I mean, hey. You do what you can do.
When you think about it, though, whatever we've been doing has been working pretty good. Two seasons of Gaslamp Ball has lead to two NL West Championships. The Padres may only bat around .230, but we've been batting 1.000. We can take solace in that.
Now begins the offseason. We gotta figure out what we're gonna do with our time. We got the Chargers. We got ummm.. offseason moves. We can review and preview things. Does anybody have any suggestions?
Oh wait.. that reminds me. We actually do have a few things that we wanted to do. I'll have to talk to jbox about it. Never mind. We know what we're doing. Don't anybody go anywhere. We have plans.
