Padres still crush on former Padres

Padres still covet mercurial pitcher Perez

General Manager Kevin Towers, who has long maintained that Perez is best suited for relief work, tried unsuccessfully to get Perez in July. Towers has made it known that he will continue to pester Mets GM Omar Minaya until he gets Perez, who, for his part, has said he'd dearly love to return to San Diego.

Not sure why we covet Perez.  He had little consistency and his delivery would change with every pitch, which didn't help him to throw strikes.

The article talks about how the Mets traded Xavier Nady for Oliver Perez earlier in the year.

The Padres want to make it clear that they still want nothing to do with Nady.
