The Birth of Trevor's Change up

New, comments

Buster Olney's article on Trevor:

As he [Hoffman] chatted with [Donnie] Elliott after the McGriff trade, Elliott showed Hoffman an adjustment he made with his own changeup -- he pinched the seam of the ball between his thumb and index finger. "That allowed me to throw the ball harder, with more arm speed," Hoffman said last week. And Hoffman also found that his pitch had more movement. He had his equalizer -- thanks in part to Elliott's advice, the best asset the Padres got in the McGriff trade.
