Open Thread, St. Patrick's Day: Padres vs Diamondbacks

Did you guys know that the Chicago White Sox invented wearing green St. Patrick's Day? That's a little known fact. They get really defensive of the fact when it's questioned. It's really weird. Also, Brian Giles will be playing the base-ball to-day. Time to see how bitter he is about Marcus not being around to shower with anymore.

GO PADRES!!!

Amazing...
Tad gets hit by a pitch. Does this happen like every single game?

Bases
According to Andy & Teddy...the bases are painted green today.

Irish Tenors
have a song called "The Unicorn"?

by jbox on Mar 17, 2008 1:18 PM PDT reply actions

Not sure.
The Irish Rovers have a song called "The Unicorn Song".

It was written by Shel Silverstein.

Ummm....
Can we just cut Shawn Estes now? As in...make a pitching change and tell him he's been released as he hands over the ball? Would anyone have a problem with this?

by Drama on Mar 17, 2008 1:36 PM PDT reply actions

Sean Estes?
and Maybe a few ladies in Arizona.

by jbox on Mar 17, 2008 1:40 PM PDT up reply actions

I think he's on a minor league deal
So we can send him to Portland to work on things. Although I'm not sure there will be room on that staff either (LeBlanc, Geer, Ramos, Wells, Hensley?).

Wells is ...
Wells is a relief pitcher ...

Estes
As long as he's not gonna make the club, he might as well start drilling opposing players.

Strikeout on top of his .095 AVG
Can't wait for Khalil to heat up a little.
mlb gameday found here.

A little?
What's even more disturbing is the fact that he's been a mess in the field as well. That's the really scary part.

by Drama on Mar 17, 2008 2:10 PM PDT up reply actions

Agreed
It seems that he's not seeing the ball well right now. His fielding is usually rock-solid, and he's blown several plays this ST.

Hopefully it's nothing. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Yeah
St. Patrick's day is moved when it coincides with Holy Week, so it was the 15th this year.

Someone should tell Sham-Rock
and the Gaslamp Association for promoting the wrong day!

Greeney!
Khalil ripped a double!!!

by Drama on Mar 17, 2008 2:46 PM PDT reply actions

Has he only hit doubles?
According to the box score, that's his 3rd of spring training.

by Wonko on Mar 17, 2008 2:48 PM PDT up reply actions

Funny. You're right.
In 21 at-bats this spring he has 3 doubles and 2 walks.

by Drama on Mar 17, 2008 2:52 PM PDT up reply actions

3 doubles....
...and he's come around to score on all three of them now.

by Drama on Mar 17, 2008 2:54 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeargh
As soon as I leave, Khalil whacks a double.

Figures.

by Phantom on Mar 17, 2008 2:55 PM PDT up reply actions

Hmmm
So when did all non doubles become illogical?

by Wonko on Mar 17, 2008 3:09 PM PDT up reply actions

The other Chris Young
The Snakes are Serious about this. 4 ABs for Young.

by Wonko on Mar 17, 2008 3:12 PM PDT reply actions

And Conor Jackson too
Despite Estes' attempt to knock him out.

by Wonko on Mar 17, 2008 3:15 PM PDT up reply actions

Rusch
Two more scoreless. Looks like hes gonna make the team. Also Geruuuuuut hit another Bomb. Nice

But
now we know the secret behind the bombs.

by jbox on Mar 17, 2008 5:21 PM PDT up reply actions

That's interesting
Jody Gerut went to Stanford though so maybe they are just trying to cover him.  Nice try Stanford!
