Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Open Thread: 9/8, Padres vs. Rockies

The air in San Diego is becoming crisp, I turned on my heater last night on the way back from the beach.  I forgot to turn it off so when I tried to turn on the A/C today only room temperature air came out.  I think that little experience of me thinking my A/C was broken emphasizes my confusion. Is it Summer or Fall right now?

One thing we can be sure of is that every game is important this time of year.  Pads need to put a winning streak together.

Go Pads!  Experience it!!!

TOUCHDOWN AZTECS!!!!!!
Sorry I thought we didn't care about baseball anymore. If you are bored waiting for the game to start, KOGO 600 AM Aztecs v Cougars. Aztecs lead 10-7. My boy Kevin O'Connell is 5-7 for 71 Yrds in the first QTR. Brandon Bournes just had a 60 yard TD Run.

Scott Hairston off the DL
Only available for PH/running duties.

Padres activate OF Hairston from disabled list

September 8, 2007

DENVER (AP) -- The San Diego Padres activated outfielder Scott Hairston from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday.

Hairston has been out since Aug. 10 with a strained left oblique muscle. Manager Bud Black said that Hairston will be available as a pinch hitter or runner Saturday night.

However, he may not start until later in the week.

"It's all about having the mental confidence to go along with the physical," Black said.

Hairston is hitting .400 with three home runs for the Padres since being acquired from Arizona for minor league pitcher Leo Rosales on July 27.

Good to be seen.  And I will not be drinking tonight.  Or taking those percosets.

NASCAR is distracting me.  I'm supposed to be at the race right now, but it was too much with the broken foot....

He said
he couldn't tell us it was personal and he wouldn't reveal the conversation.

by jbox on Sep 8, 2007 7:47 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Wow.
He's a very private man...and deeply emotional.

Talking about
his thinking doing all the pinch hitting.

by jbox on Sep 8, 2007 7:48 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

WOW...Owings OUT!
AZ bullpen will get at least 6.1 innings of work tonight.

Bud Black
I like him, as a interviewee, more and more every time I see him. He's fairly open, well spoken, and gets his message out there without dropping those stupid old manager baseball-isms like "well our strategy today was to put more runs on the board than we let them have."

by Brad on Sep 8, 2007 7:44 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

right
none of those terribly annoying cliches from Bochy.

D-Backs Announcers....
Notice Daron Suton isn't such an asshole when Joe G. is in the booth instead of Grace?

Scanlan
saying that Maddux was probably just fatigued in the thin air.

by jbox on Sep 8, 2007 7:52 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

He wouldn't pull himself without a reason-
and he wasn't hurt- so you are most likely correct

by JBro12 on Sep 8, 2007 7:54 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

God almighty.
Byrnes doubles, steals third, and scores on a throwing error. Nice work, Cardinals. 7-4

by JBro12 on Sep 8, 2007 7:55 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The Cardinals
sure don't want to win that Central. Of course, nobody does at this rate.

by Phantom on Sep 8, 2007 7:56 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

True.
Cubs, Cardinals, and Brewers all viciously competing for second.

Gonzo's name
jbox,

Just for the record, since it has been a topic that has been brought up more than once, I pronounce Gonzo's name like that at the request of his family.  I asked how they would prefer it be pronounced, and they requeseted the Spanish pronunciation.  So out of respect to his family and his culture I have tried to honor their request.

I hope that answers whatever questions there may be as to why I Adrian's name with the accent over the second "a".

Respectfully,
Bob Scanlan

Yeah that's cool
wasn't really a question, just cool that you do that just like me.

Which is worse?
AZ losing Hudson? Or us losing Milty?

by Drama on Sep 8, 2007 8:03 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

They analyzed this on the BP show
IF CY is also not back at 100% this next start - us.
Toss up otherwise. Hudson is a vet in that young lineup and it's hard to lose that leadership.

Milty though - he walked into that clubhouse and took the leadership onto his shoulders. I am so damn sick of these oblique muscles!! Is the damn situation contagious???

Damn computer
lost internet connection right as Trevor struck out the last guy!!

My reaction was:

Yay! And no heart palpitations tonight!

lol
Nice delayed comment, Christina. Is Wolfie breaking down film?

by Drama on Sep 8, 2007 8:06 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Of course
what else would he be doing on a Saturday night??!

I'm trying now to upload some pics onto my blog from today's game. Trying to get a decent one of Wolfie - he is rather photogenic ;->

Try and mix in a couple of the game...lol.
Does he coach with his shirt off by any chance?  ;)

I wish!!
I mean...no no (cough cough), of course not. Hmmmm....

I only have one game shot - the kickoff. Mostly to show off the gorgeous field. It's too hard to get good game shots with my little camera. I was taking some of the post-game coaches talk.

Grrrrr
Horrible! C'mon Cardinals!! DO SOMETHING GOOD!

Me too
almost as much as I hate Byrnes. I have disliked Drew since the whole shitstorm with him and his agent when he was first drafted and held out forever.

The D-Bags announcer
Is he this annoying every night? I've heard Brennaman(sp) and Grace, and I don't think these are the same guys, but my god, that comment when Drew scored, "don't even try to understand this Diamondbacks team to anyone, they won't understand, you're wasting your breath"? What does that even mean? And how pompous is that, like they're some sort of enigma and tremendously complicated to the point that nobody would "get" them. Even when the Cards were putting up the runs, and I was feeling good, that guy was driving me nuts.

Ever since I got MLB.TV last season
Nobody has raised my ire more than that announcing team. What I find truly disrespectful is their stupid fucking buzzer bit that they do when they ask the trivia question. I just wanna be like, "There is a fucking game going on, ya know?"

by Phantom on Sep 8, 2007 8:31 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

heh
I saw an ad on the outfield wall of Chase Field that FSN AZ is the exclusive home of the D-Backs after this season, so hopefully this morning DJ wannabe will be out of a job.

And to make things worse, someone in an apartment nearby has made popcorn. I want some popcorn.

by California Penal on Sep 8, 2007 8:42 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I doubt it.
They'll keep this announcing team. This is his first year on the job...he's not going anywhere. And neither will Grace. I like your positive thinking, though.

Stupid Cardinals!!
Do NOT mess this up for us (this time)!!

Oh a lighter note - pics are up from Pop Warner today:

HERE WE GO!
1st and 3rd nobody out.

How about this dipshit interview with this guy from the AZ lottery. What a whore job.

I think Hudson's loss...
.....is much worse than Bradley's loss.

by Drama on Sep 8, 2007 9:06 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

They aren't putting him on the DL
i know that doesn't really mean much but Milty could be back sooner rather than later.

by sdsuaztec4 on Sep 8, 2007 9:08 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Honestly....
You think he'll be back before the playoffs?

by Drama on Sep 8, 2007 9:10 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

If not,
hopefully Hairston can pick up where he left off.
