Open Thread: 9/8, Padres vs. Rockies

The air in San Diego is becoming crisp, I turned on my heater last night on the way back from the beach.  I forgot to turn it off so when I tried to turn on the A/C today only room temperature air came out.  I think that little experience of me thinking my A/C was broken emphasizes my confusion. Is it Summer or Fall right now?

One thing we can be sure of is that every game is important this time of year.  Pads need to put a winning streak together.

Go Pads!  Experience it!!!

TOUCHDOWN AZTECS!!!!!!
Sorry I thought we didn't care about baseball anymore. If you are bored waiting for the game to start, KOGO 600 AM Aztecs v Cougars. Aztecs lead 10-7. My boy Kevin O'Connell is 5-7 for 71 Yrds in the first QTR. Brandon Bournes just had a 60 yard TD Run.

Scott Hairston off the DL
Only available for PH/running duties.

Padres activate OF Hairston from disabled list

September 8, 2007

DENVER (AP) -- The San Diego Padres activated outfielder Scott Hairston from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday.

Hairston has been out since Aug. 10 with a strained left oblique muscle. Manager Bud Black said that Hairston will be available as a pinch hitter or runner Saturday night.

However, he may not start until later in the week.

"It's all about having the mental confidence to go along with the physical," Black said.

Hairston is hitting .400 with three home runs for the Padres since being acquired from Arizona for minor league pitcher Leo Rosales on July 27.

Good to be seen.  And I will not be drinking tonight.  Or taking those percosets.

NASCAR is distracting me.  I'm supposed to be at the race right now, but it was too much with the broken foot....

Harvick is my boi

It's definitely no fun
Some people are blessed with fine growing toenails. I would not be one of those people. If I don't get a pedicure every month, I'm screwed.

Gonzo's name
jbox,

Just for the record, since it has been a topic that has been brought up more than once, I pronounce Gonzo's name like that at the request of his family.  I asked how they would prefer it be pronounced, and they requeseted the Spanish pronunciation.  So out of respect to his family and his culture I have tried to honor their request.

I hope that answers whatever questions there may be as to why I Adrian's name with the accent over the second "a".

Respectfully,
Bob Scanlan

Toss up otherwise. Hudson is a vet in that young lineup and it's hard to lose that leadership.

Milty though - he walked into that clubhouse and took the leadership onto his shoulders. I am so damn sick of these oblique muscles!! Is the damn situation contagious???

The D-Bags announcer
Is he this annoying every night? I've heard Brennaman(sp) and Grace, and I don't think these are the same guys, but my god, that comment when Drew scored, "don't even try to understand this Diamondbacks team to anyone, they won't understand, you're wasting your breath"? What does that even mean? And how pompous is that, like they're some sort of enigma and tremendously complicated to the point that nobody would "get" them. Even when the Cards were putting up the runs, and I was feeling good, that guy was driving me nuts.

Boeckman (rookie QB)
looked downright awful at times. Our defense is looking good- granted, it is Akron, but we had pressure and sacks left and right, and had 3 dropped picks.

I have to say, i was delighted to see penn state wipe the floor with notre dame. because the big 10 needed it, and i hate that smug douche Jimmy Clausen.

Plus- in michigan's loss, Hart, Henne, Jake Long, (their three studs) were all injured. Next week= Mich vs. Notre Dame, AKA the game that somebody has to win.

by Christina on Sep 8, 2007 9:48 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Idk- I think its going to be close
Michigan's defense couldn't stop me-- but ND's offense is god awful.

ND's defense is average- and Michigan's QB, RB, and LG are injured/hobbled. Mich had a true fresh in at QB after Henne got hurt and it was ugly.

I think this game is going to be low scoring- lots of turnovers, lots of three and outs. I actually pick ND to win.

by JBro12 on Sep 8, 2007 9:50 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Forget about Appalachian State-
Mich can't defend ANYBODY's spread offense. If Jimmy Clausen's head isn't completely up his ass and Weis gameplans correctly (lots of 3 WR, 4 WR sets with quick hitter routes at 5-15 yards deep) I think ND will win.

by JBro12 on Sep 8, 2007 9:54 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

If they bring eight guys against Clausen,
all he has to do is complete short, underneath routes and keep the chains moving. I know Penn State had success with the blitz against him today, though.
