Open Thread: 9/8, Padres vs. Rockies

The air in San Diego is becoming crisp, I turned on my heater last night on the way back from the beach.  I forgot to turn it off so when I tried to turn on the A/C today only room temperature air came out.  I think that little experience of me thinking my A/C was broken emphasizes my confusion. Is it Summer or Fall right now?

One thing we can be sure of is that every game is important this time of year.  Pads need to put a winning streak together.

Go Pads!  Experience it!!!

TOUCHDOWN AZTECS!!!!!!
Sorry I thought we didn't care about baseball anymore. If you are bored waiting for the game to start, KOGO 600 AM Aztecs v Cougars. Aztecs lead 10-7. My boy Kevin O'Connell is 5-7 for 71 Yrds in the first QTR. Brandon Bournes just had a 60 yard TD Run.

Scott Hairston off the DL
Only available for PH/running duties.

Padres activate OF Hairston from disabled list

September 8, 2007

DENVER (AP) -- The San Diego Padres activated outfielder Scott Hairston from the 15-day disabled list on Saturday.

Hairston has been out since Aug. 10 with a strained left oblique muscle. Manager Bud Black said that Hairston will be available as a pinch hitter or runner Saturday night.

However, he may not start until later in the week.

"It's all about having the mental confidence to go along with the physical," Black said.

Hairston is hitting .400 with three home runs for the Padres since being acquired from Arizona for minor league pitcher Leo Rosales on July 27.

Good to be seen.  And I will not be drinking tonight.  Or taking those percosets.

Gonzo's name
jbox,

Just for the record, since it has been a topic that has been brought up more than once, I pronounce Gonzo's name like that at the request of his family.  I asked how they would prefer it be pronounced, and they requeseted the Spanish pronunciation.  So out of respect to his family and his culture I have tried to honor their request.

I hope that answers whatever questions there may be as to why I Adrian's name with the accent over the second "a".

Of course
what else would he be doing on a Saturday night??!

I'm trying now to upload some pics onto my blog from today's game. Trying to get a decent one of Wolfie - he is rather photogenic ;->

Try and mix in a couple of the game...lol.
Does he coach with his shirt off by any chance?  ;)

I wish!!
I mean...no no (cough cough), of course not. Hmmmm....

I only have one game shot - the kickoff. Mostly to show off the gorgeous field. It's too hard to get good game shots with my little camera. I was taking some of the post-game coaches talk.

Shit.
Stephen Drew 3-R HR ties it at 7 in the 4th.

Horrible! C'mon Cardinals!! DO SOMETHING GOOD!

Me too
almost as much as I hate Byrnes. I have disliked Drew since the whole shitstorm with him and his agent when he was first drafted and held out forever.

The D-Bags announcer
Is he this annoying every night? I've heard Brennaman(sp) and Grace, and I don't think these are the same guys, but my god, that comment when Drew scored, "don't even try to understand this Diamondbacks team to anyone, they won't understand, you're wasting your breath"? What does that even mean? And how pompous is that, like they're some sort of enigma and tremendously complicated to the point that nobody would "get" them. Even when the Cards were putting up the runs, and I was feeling good, that guy was driving me nuts.

Ever since I got MLB.TV last season
Nobody has raised my ire more than that announcing team. What I find truly disrespectful is their stupid fucking buzzer bit that they do when they ask the trivia question. I just wanna be like, "There is a fucking game going on, ya know?"

by Phantom on Sep 8, 2007 8:31 PM PDT up reply actions

heh
I saw an ad on the outfield wall of Chase Field that FSN AZ is the exclusive home of the D-Backs after this season, so hopefully this morning DJ wannabe will be out of a job.

And to make things worse, someone in an apartment nearby has made popcorn. I want some popcorn.

by California Penal on Sep 8, 2007 8:42 PM PDT up reply actions

I doubt it.
They'll keep this announcing team. This is his first year on the job...he's not going anywhere. And neither will Grace. I like your positive thinking, though.

Stupid Cardinals!!
Do NOT mess this up for us (this time)!!

Oh a lighter note - pics are up from Pop Warner today:

.....is much worse than Bradley's loss.

by Drama on Sep 8, 2007 9:06 PM PDT reply actions

They aren't putting him on the DL
i know that doesn't really mean much but Milty could be back sooner rather than later.

Honestly....
You think he'll be back before the playoffs?

The Big 10 is getting pissed on
I am a buckeye lifer; we are 2-0 and still taking shit about how weak the big 10 is because Michigan sucks more than everyone thought they were supposed to. If Wisc loses.- we could go undefeated and win every game big and still be laughed at.

by JBro12 on Sep 8, 2007 9:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Akron keeping it close....
...didn't help either. My wife is a Penn Stater.

by Drama on Sep 8, 2007 9:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Boeckman (rookie QB)
looked downright awful at times. Our defense is looking good- granted, it is Akron, but we had pressure and sacks left and right, and had 3 dropped picks.

I have to say, i was delighted to see penn state wipe the floor with notre dame. because the big 10 needed it, and i hate that smug douche Jimmy Clausen.

Plus- in michigan's loss, Hart, Henne, Jake Long, (their three studs) were all injured. Next week= Mich vs. Notre Dame, AKA the game that somebody has to win.
