Open Thread, 9/4: Padres vs Diamondbacks

So Jake Peavy is the NL Pitcher of the Month. Personally, I think it should've gone to Aaron Harang.

I think if Jake wins the Cy Young and the Triple Crown, the Padres should retire the number 44 right now. Don't even wait. Don't even let Jake wear it. Make him switch numbers. If he continues on to have a worthy enough career, retire that number too.

GO PADRES!!! EXPERIENCE IT!!!

Today
my art teacher was talking about art, duh. And he said something like "its really crazy but its not like we use a bunch of unicorns and rainbows all the time" And immediately I started laughing because I thought of you guys. So yeah. Just wanted to share that. Apparently, we are crazy for using rainbows and unicorns.

by padresgirlforlife44 on Sep 4, 2007 5:19 PM PDT   0 recs

I was aware
that I'm crazy and that I draw unicorns and rainbows but I didn't know that the two were related.

that means
we would have to print up a whole new series of shirts!  and then when hoffman number is retired, a whole nother set!!

by LJbumfool on Sep 4, 2007 5:23 PM PDT   0 recs

Retired Numbers
The first thing I would do as the next number-retiree would be to tell them I wouldn't let them retir my number until they unretired "number 6". To me that is possibly the worst abuse in the history of retired numbers. I'm down for Hoffman though...

good call
13 seasons with the dodgers and 5 with us.  its.......awkward.

by LJbumfool on Sep 4, 2007 5:38 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Awkward...
...and it's not retired by the Dodgers.

Big game
Tonight. Young can't have a start like the one he had on Thursday at PETCO. Still confident that he'll pitch fine and the bats of Gonzalez, Bradley, Giles and Kooz will win us another series.

GO YOUNG!! GO PADRES!!!!!

Peavy or Young for Cy Young award!

It's official....
Jake will go on three days rest tomorrow night against the D-Backs.

Harang
You voted for Harang, too, right?

by Winfield's Ghost on Sep 4, 2007 6:31 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Harang
If you took Brandon Webb and Brad Penny and somehow made them into one unstoppable force...that creation...would be named Aaron Harang.

I am just
going to ignore those comments.

Lookin' Good with all that hair!

by Jonny Dub on Sep 4, 2007 6:29 PM PDT   0 recs

Does he look thinner?
He supposedly lost some weight by eating Wheaties and working out (and getting paid for it.)

Or it's that nice shirt he's wearing.

Randy Jones commercial
That RJ commercial is really awkward where he's sitting on a picnic table looking at a picture of himself as a player saying "Now there's a quality player..."  WTF?  Who does that?  Besides RJ?

by jbox on Sep 4, 2007 6:38 PM PDT   0 recs

personally...
I used to go to the park and look at baseball cards of myself in little league. I used to think... "Now thats a kid that can it for power" Its not as uncommon as you think. Randy just get to do it on tv.

LOL

Good thing Peavy
is pitching tomorrow.

by planetjeffy on Sep 4, 2007 6:57 PM PDT   0 recs

Looks like
we may have to hit 5 home runs today, too.  (At least.)

by Mr Meadows on Sep 4, 2007 6:57 PM PDT   0 recs

Should be 3-0.
Luckily there was that bad call on the double play. That saved us a run.

by Drama on Sep 4, 2007 6:59 PM PDT   0 recs

Friendly invasion from the opposition here...
Just wanted to see the atmosphere in SD tonight. You guys got a nice call there on that DP.

by DbacksSkins on Sep 4, 2007 7:01 PM PDT   0 recs

Are you high?
Brynes was out by a step - at least.

BEAT IT.

by Drama on Sep 4, 2007 7:03 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Dude Drama
All the D-Back bloggers have been real friendly, don't be telling them to beat it.

Jeez.

Send him an e-card and apologize.

by jbox on Sep 4, 2007 7:21 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Thanks.
I've come here before but never posted. Always fun to see what the opposition is thinking, since you know your team better than we do.

by DbacksSkins on Sep 4, 2007 7:29 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Sorry
yeah feel free to join the conversation and ignore those that don't welcome you.

Drama's a little tense
You'll have to excuse him.  He just found out he didn't win the lottery and he's gonna have to take back that Winnebago he bought.

by Winfield's Ghost on Sep 4, 2007 7:40 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

You HAD to bring up the Winnebago.

I can totally fix it. I'm sure of it.

by Drama on Sep 4, 2007 7:46 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

My dad
has an awesome set of tools.

by Winfield's Ghost on Sep 4, 2007 7:49 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Think there was a coincidence it came...
....right after a two-run jack?

And did you read my post? Did you not get the sarcasm? On two seperate occasions I wrote that it was a bad call and a gift for us.

by Drama on Sep 4, 2007 7:33 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Actually....
Tony Clark hit his HR right when I got on my computer. I didn't mean to gloat with the timing, sorry.

by DbacksSkins on Sep 4, 2007 7:38 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Honestly, it's no big deal.
That was in response to jbox's comment...not yours.

Honestly, my original post to you was in jest. If you read my comments about the call previous to that I think you'll see it.

by Drama on Sep 4, 2007 7:40 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Ah, sorry for misinterpreting.
It's not a TV game here so I just had to go by the radio call. :-\

by DbacksSkins on Sep 4, 2007 7:42 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

It was a very bad call. Byrnes was safe.
Saved us a run...not that it matters the way this is going for us.

by Drama on Sep 4, 2007 7:43 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I seem to remember...
That the last time Doug Davis faced Chris Young, we allowed 7 runs before escaping with a win.

That's part of our problem. We can't win unless it's a 1 run game. Anymore than that and we're screwed.

by DbacksSkins on Sep 4, 2007 7:45 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

See
now you guys are friends.  This is great!

by jbox on Sep 4, 2007 7:46 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Eh..... away fans during the Cubs series....
Sorta reminded us why it's important to be RESPECTFUL when you're in enemy territory. (Hint: they were NOT)

by DbacksSkins on Sep 4, 2007 7:49 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

That's because
they're Cubs fans.

Was there a guy named Smooth Jazz Man?  Thinks he knows everything?  Smells real bad?

Yeah, we hate him.

by Winfield's Ghost on Sep 4, 2007 7:50 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Haha....
Actually, I was talking about @ Chase.

But I know who he is from the BCB board.

Horrible at bats
early on by the Padres. This has got to change.

by Phantom on Sep 4, 2007 7:01 PM PDT   0 recs

4 pitches
2 outs. Come on guys! Where's the patient agressive approach?

by Phantom on Sep 4, 2007 7:02 PM PDT   0 recs

I wish Matty V
would STFU about Tony Clark and his HR's against CY

by socaldelmar on Sep 4, 2007 7:03 PM PDT   0 recs

Everyone watch Josh Bard
That is how you succeed against Doug Davis.

by Phantom on Sep 4, 2007 7:03 PM PDT   0 recs

Apparently Geoff Blum
was too busy admiiring his hair to pay attention to the previous at bat.

by Phantom on Sep 4, 2007 7:05 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

just thought I would let everyone know
