Smells Like Padres in Here - Tuesday Edition

Smells Like Padres in Here - Tuesday Edition

Cassel comes up huge.

Chemistry matters.  Also, at the bottom of this piece, it is noted that Hensley will be having exploratory surgery on his shoulder on Friday and will need two to six months to recover.  Done for the year.  Why do I have this feeling that just as Hensley is about to go under, Towers will show up in surgical gear and say "Don't worry, Clay.  I'll take care of everything."?

Bradley still isn't ready.

Those of you who like all your formulas and statistics and crap I don't understand may enjoy this as it references Arizona and how they have defied logic so far.

And I think everyone will enjoy this because it's like Christmas and your birthday rolled into one.

Mad Dog vs. Tom Gorzelanny tonight.  Gorzelanny seems to be the Pirates best pitcher.  He has not lost since August 17th.  It's about time.  Game time is 7:05pm PST.

Birthday And ChrismaHanuKwanzaa.
Especially good because it was a Webb start, and likely 4 more games until they pitch him again.

I really hate ESPN
I'm watching Sportscenter this morning...and they're making a huge deal about the race in the NL East (2.5 games) and then talking about the NL Central race (1 game)...but only talking about the Padres in terms of the wildcard race. We're ONE game out in the West! The NL West race is the best of the NL races, without question. The NL East race isn't really that close...the Central will be won by the team that sucks less than the other...but the West is a real battle...night after night.

I don't know why I ever expect more out of ESPN...it just pisses me off and I need to vent.

by Drama on Sep 18, 2007 8:26 AM PDT   0 recs

if you remember...
the last time they made a huge deal about the NL West race was 2 years ago, when it was our division that was won by the team who sucked less than the others. It's only fair that the NL Central gets their due.

by pjbno4 on Sep 18, 2007 8:35 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Seriously
When it was the West struggling in 2005 it was like the most embarrassing thing the sport had ever endured. But this year, it's just a feel good story about the Brewers and the beloved "Cubbies" fighting it out. Total garbage.

Another reason why I want us to win the NL West so badly...I want the Padres to get the Cubs in the NLDS.

In case you haven't taken a good look at the standings lately...with the Mets struggling...we still have a legit shot at the best record in the National League.

Sigh
Speaking of tilting at windmills....  Getting the NL West the recognition it deserves just ain't gonna happen.

ESPN
nobody calls them that anymore. its "the self-proclaimed world wide leader"

so pumped on our boys
4 straight is great, but we can't slow down now. Let's win, baby.

Maddux needs to rip the Pirates apart tonight, and make them beg for mercy.

**I just tried the instant shirt removal, and its totally cool. I love these Sprint videos.

boomer...
in addition to not retiring any time soon, he also feels billingsley is the next jake peavy or CY.

The tulips were a nice touch, as well.

Every time I want to say the Dodgers acquired
a ticking bomb in Boomer....I stop and reflect that as a Padre Brett Tomko has given up like 1 run.

In this satanic turn of events, Boomer and Tomko are conjoined twins far outperforming their very recent terrible histories.  We must root for Boomer, even as a Dodger, because if he slips then Tomko turns back into a gas can faster than Boomer can say 'ham sandwich.'

Clay's surgery
I actually find the news that Clay's been in a lot of pain and is now undergoing surgery a little reassuring.  Not because I wish him ill, but it helps explain, to me at least, why KT would refuse to trade him but then toss him around.  Maybe KT thinks he's still awesome and wants to keep him around for the future once he's healthy, but knew that for the time being Clay couldn't be relied upon until he's out of pain.  If the surgery finds and fixes a big problem, clay may return to lat 2006 form and be a bargain starter for the Padres next season.

by Demoira on Sep 18, 2007 9:02 AM PDT   0 recs

Clay
Balsley was on XX Sports Radio yesterday and said that Clay's shoulder had bothered him for quite awhile and that they expect him to make a full recovery and be a part of the rotation next season. Who knows? But there has to be some explanation why KT refused to give him to the Astros for Lamb.

by Drama on Sep 18, 2007 9:11 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

D-Backs
Third baseman Chad Tracy, who came off the DL list on Sunday...now will have season-ending surgery on his knee.

Also, did you see in last night's game Webb was pitching to Ray Durham and walked him...but everyone messed up on the count and they all thought it was 3-2...so he got another pitch and flied out to Eric Byrnes to end the inning.

Who's down to visit?
Just kidding ;)

I just heard
a spot for it on Scott and BR this morning. I went online to get some more info, but haven't found anything.

Ummm....
Not much to tell really. The rumor is that they picked-it up to keep it away (which they deny) from the impending new sports talk station that Clear Channel is rumored to be starting in the somewhat near future.

Posner had a mention of it in his column last Friday.

Don't get me started!
Clearly I have a personal loyalty to XX - and they saved my poor sad city by stepping in when some big radio conglomerate - wait, wasn't that Clear Channel?! - took AWAY our only sports station. But it really ticks me off when, in arguments to justify the station change they are proposing to launch their version of an all sports station, they claim they are "filling a void"! WHAT?!!! Just 4 years ago they didn't think enough of the San Diego market to even leave us with one station and now they think it will support two? Sorry folks, I love XX. I love that it is a one man, locally grown radio station. I would never listen to anything else.

Doubleheader
For the Rox and Dodgers. First game starts in about 20 minutes. Who do we want to win again??

by sdsuaztec4 on Sep 18, 2007 11:43 AM PDT   0 recs

Rox?
because we face them again and can deal with them.

i know!!
i heard though that she showed up uninvited to that party, or at least that's what jason said in some interview.

i really hate spencer and heidi, like more than ever after last night's episode. especially spencer. that guy sucks at life. i wish jason had punched his already ugly face and made it even uglier.

i can't stand spencer or heidi
they're both so annoying. i can't believe that heidi has a recording contract. =/

i was also wishing that jason had punched spencer.

Let's post ideas for all the rookies
Kouz: a lady pirate, the "man with no pants" (basically a suit with just boxers), Hans or Franz

KCam: Wonder Woman

Thatch: Popeye (or even Olive Oyl), Britney Spears

Hampson (is he a rookie?): Xena, a little kid outfit with a giant lollipop

Any other rookies? Do we count the September call-ups?

by matto619 on Sep 18, 2007 1:43 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

i think they count the september call ups
they dressed them up last year
