Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Open Thread: 8/6, Padres vs. Cardinals

I feel like I have so much left to say about the Padres and their love fest for Barry Bonds, but that time has past.  Somehow we have to move on, but it's hard when every headline on Padres.com talks about the Padres writing poems and love letters to Bonds.  It's sick.

It's going to be hard for the Padres to focus on beating the Cardinals tonight when they are still thinking about their true love that has returned to San Francisco.

But we will do it!

I'm babbling now and Dex is pressuring me to get the this open thread up, because apparently the game is starting. So here!

Wells vs. Looper

Go Padres!!! Beat the Cardinals!!!  Experience it!!!

96 degrees, but feels like 101
I've never understood feels like. How do they know what it feels like to me? Maybe I love ridiculous amounts of heat and it just feels like 72. Maybe I'm running a lights fever and it feels like 102.

Lil David Eckstein
He's scrappy. He's like a kitten.

I like Dusty Baker
He's like a wise, magical walrus, who's a little bit loopy from drinking so much salt water while seeking glow-in-the-dark crustaceans to eat for lunch.

I told you. I'm not gay!
I'm just a seriously just a fantastic dancer, with a ridiculous sense of style and a rear end that shakes like a maraca.

Interesting that "Mr. Thank You, Jesus For the Double I Just Smacked" refuses to sign autographs for the kids that love him so much while he's hanging out at Chuck E. Cheese.

I like Dusty Baker as an announcer
Haven't heard much of him before. Very nice and tolerable. Good analysis. I'm pleased with this crew.

It's very rare when he strikes, but when he does, he takes a couple limbs with him.

And he wears white suits.

Yesterday's Game
I'm not sure how many of you were at the game, but I was.

In the bottom of the 1st, I glanced over at the Western Metal Supply Co Building and noticed that some G-nat fans had affixed a yellow "Thank You Barry" sign to the railing outside of their party suite.

Since I know that the only signs officially permited to be hung on railings at Petco are the K's and Q's in rightfield (my section), I walked up to the closest Elite Security supervisor I could find.

The exchange:
Me: Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the K's and Q's the only approved signs to be hung on railings here?
Him: Yup, you're right
Me: <pointing to the Barry sign> Then I want that one taken down. I don't want that shit in my ballpark.

He got on the radio right away, and half an inning later, it was gone!

Bad news: The ESPN cameras got a shot of it before it was taken down... I saw that piece of shit on Sportscenter.

FUCK BARRY!!

i love it
when vasgersian opens up an inning by talking about how horrible the cardinals are on offense (like we have any room to talk) and then they proceed to score ten runs.  He's killin me!  shut the hell up with the useless statistics and let us win the game...

by playa on Aug 6, 2007 6:17 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah, blame Matty V.
Wells starts shitting his pants...Buddy does NOTHING to stop it...and then Mike Thompson comes out and pitches like Mike F*cking Thompson. But, yeah...it's totally Matty's fault.

Thompson was the only option?

by lohleelo on Aug 6, 2007 6:28 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Sadly, yes.
Take a look at the stats of the starting pitchers we have in Portland. It's a wonder they've won any games at all.

An Open Letter to "playa"
Sorry about my snide response to your post about Matty V. I'm a big Matty & Mud fan and it always bugs me when someone "blames" him for bad things happening to the Padres when he's merely doing his job and pointing something out. I'm sorry if my response came off as harsh or rude. Please accept my apologies.
