Open Thread, 8/5: Padres vs Giant

I'm all sleepy today after staying up so late for last night's game. YAAAWN. Clay Hensley's not up with the club? Good. Call him back up for his next start. No sense keeping him in San Diego what with all the distractions.

I haven't looked at the lineup yet. Is Barry still around? I don't get what happened with Padres fans last night. What happened to those guys who threw the giant syringe on the field and all the boos? We were the most hostile to that guy last season and this season, we're politely applauding. Gag me with a spoon. Do the kids still say "gag me with a spoon"?

GO PADRES! EXPERIENCE IT!

Blum stays in Left. Mackowack batting 7th, Cameron at leadoff. I would have done the opposite but oh well.

Put Blum in wherever you can
Just as long as he can do his bidness.

Matt and Mud
I remember back in the day when the Padres sucked really really bad and they would pass the time by giving each other yellow cards and picking out faces in the crowd. Sometimes they would look at the flags and talk about how the wind made the flags go in certain directions. Now, they still have their little cheesy antics, but it appears smug because the Padres win. Back then, it was like, do whatever it takes to make sure people still stick around to watch.

Michael Barrett with a walk
That's amazing, but, interestingly enough, I'm not especially moved by it.

Padres hitters...
Once again, making a regular pitcher look like a Hall of Fam-

Wow
he hit his face hard on that one.

by Winfield's Ghost on Aug 5, 2007 1:37 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I did that one time
Except it wasn't an outfield wall, but a sliding glass door that was notably clean. And also, I wasn't going after a baseball, but another hot dog that was cooking on a grill in the backyard.

DBags already up 2-0
What the hell is up with them?? They have the worst run differential in the division, yet are in first place. Someone on their team must have made an effing deal with the devil because I've been saying since May that they won't keep up the pace, but here it is in August and the are still going. WTF!?!?! This is seriously boggling my mind.

He couldn't find home plate with Google Maps at this point.

I wonder if they pull him out here...
Psychologically, he's done.

by Sam (sdsuaztec4) on Aug 5, 2007 1:54 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

embarrassing
bases juiced, 1 out, pitcher on the ropes, Padres fail to score. Championship team figure out a way to get in that situation.

by RBS on Aug 5, 2007 1:55 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

that was terrible
Time to work on signs. Actually... No need for signs. Somebody in the dugout should have been screaming, "red light".

Nice to be in the bullpen early. Nicer if we could have taken advantage of Lowry last inning.

A-Gon
I love how aggressive he is in those situations...but he was falling backwards on that throw. He needed to go to first for the sure out.

I was also surprised by the warmer reception Bonds got in San Diego. Now he has a chance to get #756 at home: http://thenewsroom.com/details/570869?c_id=wom-bc-bh
