Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Open Thread, 8/25: Padres vs Phillies

These back and forth affairs are a little much for me. I think I liked it better when our starters wouldn't get credit with wins, but we'd shut out the other team and score once in the 6th. At least then, I'd know that there wouldn't be so much excitement.

I'm just saying...

GO PADRES!!! EXPERIENCE IT!!!

I think...
If the philosophy is jump on the first pitch strike, then the philosophy has backfired so far.

I here ya
Briles, Cam and Agon all first pitch swinging...patience grasshopper!

Stansberry to the Padres.

Marcus
Are we super concerned with that right now? It kinda seems like we'll be able to call somebody up to test things out while the offense is doing ok.

by Dex on Aug 25, 2007 4:11 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

To me,
its more of the fact that we proved we were right. And the guy who ran into him didnt even touch the ground. And then we kicked their butts.

by padresgirlforlife44 on Aug 25, 2007 4:13 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I'm just even more
pissed about Ruiz since Marcus had to go down. Totally a cheap shot play.

Trudat
I guess Ruiz takes on in the back today.

ok, but Pat Burrell????

That just sucks...

Shoot
This pitcher has a 6+ ERA, we'll never be able to hit him.

by sdsuaztec4 on Aug 25, 2007 4:23 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Diamondbacks
I have no idea how they're in first place. You can't consistently, week after week, score fewer wins than the teams you play against and expect to hang on to first. They remind me of the 2005 Padres except they're in front of good teams.

by Dex on Aug 25, 2007 4:28 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

We're 2 games back.
I'd prefer not to have Double A pitchers making their major league debuts with so much on the line.

by Drama on Aug 25, 2007 4:53 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

ok but
wouldn't you rather have those guys than guys like Hensley, Cassel, or Thompson?

by sdpads24 on Aug 25, 2007 4:56 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No. No. And yes.
I'd rather have Clay as my first option. Jack Cassel obviously isn't an option...if he were he'd be pitching tomorrow afternoon. Mike Thompson? Thompson is horrible.

by Drama on Aug 25, 2007 5:04 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

We'll see how Hensley fares the rest of the game before my opinion can change.

Radar Gun
Are the Phillies living in the dark ages at their brand new ballpark???

There's a guy with a radar gun and a walkie talkie sitting in the 2nd run behind the plate.

Don't tell me that's how they put the MPH up on their scoreboard.....that's just pathetic!!  Reminds me of the dude at Doyer Stadium with the wide brimmed hat.

AAA Pitchers
Cesar Carillo-DL
Jack Cassel-40 man
Scott Cassidy-40 man
Shawn Estes-DL
Casey Fossum
Will Startup
Joe Thacher-40 man
Tim Stauffer-40 man
Jared Wells-40 man

These are the pitchers I think can possibly start. Stauffer is a lock to pitch tomorrow i'm pretty sure.

by sdsuaztec4 on Aug 25, 2007 5:05 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Stauffer has done better lately in Portland
if he can keep it up I can see him get the 5th spot over Hensley.

It fired us up and created a division in their clubhouse. Talk about effin' up really bad; Ruiz is their resident pooch-screwer.

Alfonseca
The circus freak!!!

by jpleeg2 on Aug 25, 2007 6:00 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Found this on BaseballLibrary.com
An imposing 6'5" right-hander who threw in the high 90's, Alfonseca took over as the Marlins' closer after the club's mid-season trade of Matt Mantei in 1999. Alfonseca was born with six fingers and toes on each hand and foot, an oddity that led his teammates to nickname him "Pulpo" -- Spanish for octopus. When the Marlins clinched a playoff spot in 1997, manager Jim Leyland jokingly asked Alfonseca to "give him six".

He probably woulda popped out or rolled over an outside pitch and grounded to Iguchi.

I mean he is only 2 errors off of the lead for 3b in errors in about 25 games less. But I guess you "knowledgeable" fans don't take that into consideration. By the way, thats how you spell Knowledgeable. but anyway, that was cool the way you guys beat us this last series. No excuses, bottom of our rotation, but it's cool. so, what's up, think you guys are going to the playoffs? oh and as far as hanging out on Dodger websites...they're just boring. Should clarify
I mean there's no way that I'd wear it boxy like they do, not "No way; I'd wear it like they do."

Werd.
Also, it's good that we know the scouting report on how to get Branyan out: just throw the ball in the same time zone.

Why must I be looking at Werthless??
Of course, the ironic thing is that other than Werthless, the other outfielder who used to piss me off when I sat in right field was Milton Bradley!

Funny
My season tix are in 131 row 1, and I actually enjoyed Milty, even when he was a Doyer.

Dude used to turn around and run his hands across the "Los Angeles" on the front of his jersey, gave the shhhhhh sign, pointed to the scoreboard, etc, etc, etc.

It truly is this:
YOU LOVE HIM AND HIS INTENSITY IF HE'S ON YOUR TEAM..... YOU HATE HIM ON THE OTHER TEAM!!

by jpleeg2 on Aug 25, 2007 6:42 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Exactly!!!
When I say he pissed me off - it's because he was funny, but was a DODGER and was showing us up when he stole a home run and then hit one himself the next inning.

Werthless is a thousand times worse and there is no way I would love even as a Padre.

Did you see the Padre fan?
There is a brave soul sitting down the third base line with a Padres home jersey on.

Oh, and sit down Werthless. Feel the Heath.

Another Thought on Milty...
I wonder if the yelling at the fans behind Homeplate after the BOMB last inning was Milton following through on this postgame quote from last night.

"For the next few days, they can call me T.O. [Terrell Owens], because I'm going to be [ticking] some people off."

Heater's the man.
I've said it before and I'll never stop reiterating.

I got home at the right time
Sat down to watch one inning before Cameron unloaded. I pretty much only saw about 5 innings total of the last 4 games when we were hitting the cover off the ball. It just figures they have been slugging when I couldn't watch!!

by soulSD on Aug 25, 2007 6:51 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The dimensions are actually incorrect
The printed numbers are much further than the actual distance.  They just measured about a month or so ago and realized it was screwed up.

Phillies Fans
Leaving before the end of a game.... remind you of any place in particular?

by sqrunt on Aug 25, 2007 6:52 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Actually
I was thinking of Doyer Stadium... good ole Crapez Ravine

Before Gagne, it was "get there in the 3rd, leave in the 7th"

During Gagne, it was "get there in the 3rd, stay till Gagne comes in"

Now, its back to the original.....
