Open Thread, 8/25: Padres vs Phillies

These back and forth affairs are a little much for me. I think I liked it better when our starters wouldn't get credit with wins, but we'd shut out the other team and score once in the 6th. At least then, I'd know that there wouldn't be so much excitement.

I'm just saying...

GO PADRES!!! EXPERIENCE IT!!!

If the philosophy is jump on the first pitch strike, then the philosophy has backfired so far.

Marcus
Are we super concerned with that right now? It kinda seems like we'll be able to call somebody up to test things out while the offense is doing ok.

by Dex on Aug 25, 2007 4:11 PM PDT reply actions

To me,
its more of the fact that we proved we were right. And the guy who ran into him didnt even touch the ground. And then we kicked their butts.

I'm just even more
pissed about Ruiz since Marcus had to go down. Totally a cheap shot play.

This pitcher has a 6+ ERA, we'll never be able to hit him.

Diamondbacks
I have no idea how they're in first place. You can't consistently, week after week, score fewer wins than the teams you play against and expect to hang on to first. They remind me of the 2005 Padres except they're in front of good teams.

No. No. And yes.
I'd rather have Clay as my first option. Jack Cassel obviously isn't an option...if he were he'd be pitching tomorrow afternoon. Mike Thompson? Thompson is horrible.

Are the Phillies living in the dark ages at their brand new ballpark???

There's a guy with a radar gun and a walkie talkie sitting in the 2nd run behind the plate.

Don't tell me that's how they put the MPH up on their scoreboard.....that's just pathetic!!  Reminds me of the dude at Doyer Stadium with the wide brimmed hat.

Cesar Carillo-DL
Jack Cassel-40 man
Scott Cassidy-40 man
Shawn Estes-DL
Casey Fossum
Will Startup
Joe Thacher-40 man
Tim Stauffer-40 man
Jared Wells-40 man

These are the pitchers I think can possibly start. Stauffer is a lock to pitch tomorrow i'm pretty sure.

Found this on BaseballLibrary.com
An imposing 6'5" right-hander who threw in the high 90's, Alfonseca took over as the Marlins' closer after the club's mid-season trade of Matt Mantei in 1999. Alfonseca was born with six fingers and toes on each hand and foot, an oddity that led his teammates to nickname him "Pulpo" -- Spanish for octopus. When the Marlins clinched a playoff spot in 1997, manager Jim Leyland jokingly asked Alfonseca to "give him six".

My season tix are in 131 row 1, and I actually enjoyed Milty, even when he was a Doyer.

Dude used to turn around and run his hands across the "Los Angeles" on the front of his jersey, gave the shhhhhh sign, pointed to the scoreboard, etc, etc, etc.

It truly is this:

Sat down to watch one inning before Cameron unloaded. I pretty much only saw about 5 innings total of the last 4 games when we were hitting the cover off the ball. It just figures they have been slugging when I couldn't watch!!

Speaking of Eddie Vedder....
Houses of the holy
Was an album by led zeppelin
I bought it on eight track
Not on cd
Fades out in the middle
The way an eight track's s'posed to
The way an eight track's s'posed to

I got the number thirteen
Tattooed on my bicep
The thirteenth letter of the alphabet
Is the letter "m"
Stands for marijuana
The way that it oughta
The way a letter oughta

The "electric kool-aid acid test"
Was a novel by tom wolfe
It's about taking lsd
And driving 'cross the country
Drivin' in a school bus
A school bus on lsd
The way an education oughta be

I wanna drive a school bus
Over to the brady's
And pick up alice
And then we'll bake some brownies
And then i'll grab marcia
And play with her ouija board
And talk to mr. brady

Houses of the holy
Was a really bitchin' album
Bonzo kicks ass on it
And then he chokes on his vomit
The way a rock star's s'posed to die
The way a rock star's s'posed to die
The way a rock star's s'posed to die

I wanna die wasted
In a room with eddie vedder
We could both die together
But he'll go first
Yeah eddie'll go first
'cause he's more famous
More famous than the rugburns

When you buy our coffins
Put eight tracks in 'em
Playin' houses of the holy
'cause it's a really bitchin' album
Remember when i told you
Remember how it fades out
Remember when i told you

~ The Rugburns

Am I the only one feeling totally hyped up and somewhat vindicated tonight? How long before ESPN is spending all of its time hanging from San Diego's scrote again (feel free to take your time, you jinx-ridden sons-of-Biggios!)?

READ ME-FROM ESPN.COM
After the game, Myers got into a shouting match with a reporter and had to be restrained by teammate Pat Burrell.

When Myers was asked about the two home runs, he said they were really "just pop ups."

A reporter from the Philadelphia Inquirer questioned whether Myers really thought they were pop ups, and Myers got angry.

"You're not even a beat reporter, you're a fill-in, you don't know anything about baseball," said Myers, who then called the reporter "retarded."

The Inquirer reporter asked if Myers could spell retarded, and Myers stood up. Burrell then restrained Myers, and Myers refused to speak any further
