Open Thread, 8/25: Padres vs Phillies

These back and forth affairs are a little much for me. I think I liked it better when our starters wouldn't get credit with wins, but we'd shut out the other team and score once in the 6th. At least then, I'd know that there wouldn't be so much excitement.

I'm just saying...

GO PADRES!!! EXPERIENCE IT!!!

I think...
If the philosophy is jump on the first pitch strike, then the philosophy has backfired so far.

by Dex on Aug 25, 2007 4:07 PM PDT   0 recs

I here ya
Briles, Cam and Agon all first pitch swinging...patience grasshopper!

by pasadenapadre on Aug 25, 2007 4:12 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Hey Milton's favorite player
is at bat! AGone's favorite player is on 1b!

by sdsuaztec4 on Aug 25, 2007 4:09 PM PDT   0 recs

Miles to DL
Stansberry to the Padres.

by sdsuaztec4 on Aug 25, 2007 4:10 PM PDT   0 recs

Marcus
Are we super concerned with that right now? It kinda seems like we'll be able to call somebody up to test things out while the offense is doing ok.

by Dex on Aug 25, 2007 4:11 PM PDT   0 recs

To me,
its more of the fact that we proved we were right. And the guy who ran into him didnt even touch the ground. And then we kicked their butts.

by padresgirlforlife44 on Aug 25, 2007 4:13 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I'm just even more
pissed about Ruiz since Marcus had to go down. Totally a cheap shot play.

by Phantom on Aug 25, 2007 4:14 PM PDT   0 recs

Trudat
I guess Ruiz takes on in the back today.

by Dex on Aug 25, 2007 4:15 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Also
how cool is it to get the Channel 4 broadcast on MLB.TV tonite?

by Phantom on Aug 25, 2007 4:14 PM PDT   0 recs

Does Clay Hensley
make anyone else nervous?

by padresgirlforlife44 on Aug 25, 2007 4:17 PM PDT   0 recs

He just
needs to regain his confidence. Here, that means keeping the ball down.

by Phantom on Aug 25, 2007 4:19 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

If Howard hits a homer...
ok, but Pat Burrell????

That just sucks...

by pasadenapadre on Aug 25, 2007 4:19 PM PDT   0 recs

Shoot
This pitcher has a 6+ ERA, we'll never be able to hit him.

by sdsuaztec4 on Aug 25, 2007 4:23 PM PDT   0 recs

Diamondbacks
I have no idea how they're in first place. You can't consistently, week after week, score fewer wins than the teams you play against and expect to hang on to first. They remind me of the 2005 Padres except they're in front of good teams.

by Dex on Aug 25, 2007 4:28 PM PDT   0 recs

Plus
Mud just mentioned that they have the worst team AVG. in the NL.

by sdsuaztec4 on Aug 25, 2007 4:29 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Werth?
I hate that guy.

by Dex on Aug 25, 2007 4:36 PM PDT   0 recs

Carlos Ruiz
He just looks like an asshole.

by sdsuaztec4 on Aug 25, 2007 4:37 PM PDT   0 recs

dumb mlb tv
It's getting choppy and I want to see Ruiz take on in the back.

by Dex on Aug 25, 2007 4:38 PM PDT   0 recs

dagnabbit clay hensley
First base open. Two outs.

PUT ONE IN HIS BACK.

Seriously, send Clay down. I'm sick of him. Sorry 17YOGP.

by Dex on Aug 25, 2007 4:39 PM PDT   0 recs

Nice sac
Clay. Get it going Briles.

by Phantom on Aug 25, 2007 4:44 PM PDT   0 recs

Good bunt
If we send him down now, at least it will be on a positive note.

by Dex on Aug 25, 2007 4:45 PM PDT   0 recs

Clay
only threw one bad pitch so far. And made a good bunt. Lets see what he does the rest of the game.

by sdsuaztec4 on Aug 25, 2007 4:46 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

We're 2 games back.
I'd prefer not to have Double A pitchers making their major league debuts with so much on the line.

by Drama on Aug 25, 2007 4:53 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

ok but
wouldn't you rather have those guys than guys like Hensley, Cassel, or Thompson?

by sdpads24 on Aug 25, 2007 4:56 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

No. No. And yes.
I'd rather have Clay as my first option. Jack Cassel obviously isn't an option...if he were he'd be pitching tomorrow afternoon. Mike Thompson? Thompson is horrible.

by Drama on Aug 25, 2007 5:04 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Ok
We'll see how Hensley fares the rest of the game before my opinion can change.

by sdpads24 on Aug 25, 2007 5:05 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

ABC
Anybody But Clay.

by Dex on Aug 25, 2007 4:50 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Nice...
You're filling in nicely for jbox.

by Drama on Aug 25, 2007 4:53 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Ugh
I don't like how much we're K'ing tonite.

by Phantom on Aug 25, 2007 4:47 PM PDT   0 recs

Radar Gun
Are the Phillies living in the dark ages at their brand new ballpark???

There's a guy with a radar gun and a walkie talkie sitting in the 2nd run behind the plate.

Don't tell me that's how they put the MPH up on their scoreboard.....that's just pathetic!!  Reminds me of the dude at Doyer Stadium with the wide brimmed hat.

by jpleeg2 on Aug 25, 2007 4:48 PM PDT   0 recs

Clay
is starting to look a little more wild.

by Phantom on Aug 25, 2007 4:59 PM PDT   0 recs

AAA Pitchers
Cesar Carillo-DL
Jack Cassel-40 man
Scott Cassidy-40 man
Shawn Estes-DL
Casey Fossum
Will Startup
Joe Thacher-40 man
Tim Stauffer-40 man
Jared Wells-40 man

These are the pitchers I think can possibly start. Stauffer is a lock to pitch tomorrow i'm pretty sure.

by sdsuaztec4 on Aug 25, 2007 5:05 PM PDT   0 recs

Stauffer has done better lately in Portland
if he can keep it up I can see him get the 5th spot over Hensley.

by sdpads24 on Aug 25, 2007 5:07 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

not him
anybody but jason weyrth
Relax, all right? Don't try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they're fascist. Throw some ground balls - it's more democratic.

by TheRevRun on Aug 25, 2007 5:13 PM PDT   0 recs

Wow.
A RevRun sighting!!!

by Drama on Aug 25, 2007 5:17 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Does RevRun work for the Padres?
I think I remember seeing that somewhere.

by padresgirlforlife44 on Aug 25, 2007 5:20 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Everyone Sleeping???
I guess this is the hangover after the last few games....

by jpleeg2 on Aug 25, 2007 5:39 PM PDT   0 recs

this game
is slow and boring. and it's hot. and bud black is bringing in a righty to face the lefty.

by sdsuaztec4 on Aug 25, 2007 5:41 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

and......
whaddaya know.... it worked, surprisingly enough.

and.....Schilling???

by jpleeg2 on Aug 25, 2007 5:43 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

It worked.

Late to the game...
This is just the sort of thing that pisses Wiggins off.
Anyway; why is the road broadcast being shown on mlb.tv? I'm definately not complaining...

We are only down 2.
Come on guys. We scored 14 last night. This guy has a 6 ERA. Lets try to string a few good offensive series together. Hits on three! One! Two! Three! HITS!

by sdsuaztec4 on Aug 25, 2007 5:43 PM PDT   0 recs

I've got a brand-new
type of optimism these days. No longer is it "well, we could win this one; now I think "we are gonna win this."

We need some points!!!
Need to get a lead here... THIS INNING!!!

And when I say a lead, I mean a 3 run lead....

by jpleeg2 on Aug 25, 2007 5:46 PM PDT   0 recs

Too bad
it wasn't a five run homer. For that 3 run lead.

by sdsuaztec4 on Aug 25, 2007 5:48 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

At the plate....
Lohse has thrown 62 pitches thru 5 innings. Padres pitchers have thrown 105 thru 5 innings. WE ARE NOT MAKING HIM WORK HARD ENOUGH.

by Drama on Aug 25, 2007 5:46 PM PDT   0 recs

Cheap.

Yup
That was a corner store homerun

by jpleeg2 on Aug 25, 2007 5:48 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

If he had emotions
he'd feel like a real asshole right now.

LOVE IT!!!
BROACAIL!!!

MY NEW 2ND FAVORITE PADRE....behind Uncle Milty of course.

by jpleeg2 on Aug 25, 2007 5:53 PM PDT   0 recs

Quis
Just said that nobody in the Phillies' dugout was even standing up or yelling at Brocail when he hit PussBoy Ruiz.

Hmmmm.....let's see...... does that mean they agree that his "slide" was bush league?

I THINK SO!!  YOU EFFIN HACK!!!

by jpleeg2 on Aug 25, 2007 5:56 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Rollins
said in the paper, that if someone did that to him he'd be pissed too.

by sdsuaztec4 on Aug 25, 2007 5:57 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yup
Like I speculated last night, I bet a bunch of them were pissed at him during the game last night for firing up the Pads.

by jpleeg2 on Aug 25, 2007 5:58 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

So, it worked out for us twofold.
It fired us up and created a division in their clubhouse. Talk about effin' up really bad; Ruiz is their resident pooch-screwer.

hahahahahaha
Hey Charlie Manuel...get your old, Murder She Wrote watchin', Ensure drinkin', ass back to your dugout. Your dipshit put our 2nd baseman on the DL. Shut your mouth and get back to the dugout...and take your walker with you.

by Drama on Aug 25, 2007 5:55 PM PDT   0 recs

You know
Ruiz expected his teammates to riot in his defense. No such luck, asshole.
