Some stuff to read... Week in review edition

I can't believe how busy I've been this week. I've been completely swamped with work and school. Big conference next week and I'll be back in San Diego the week after for graduation and some much needed rest. Let's shake the bag and see what comes out...

First off, from last night:

Mike Cameron is to Pirates bullpen, what lawnmower is to grass. For the record, I don't see what the big deal is in getting all of our guys swinging at once. Wouldn't we rather have enough of our guys swinging at once?

Bullets...

More updates through the day...

Update [2007-6-1 10:26:24 by Dex]: Adrian Gonzalez to be interviewed on ESPN First Take today. ESPN has such a San Diego bias.

Update [2007-6-1 11:36:22 by Dex]: Forgot to credit FanGraphs for the chart. Really great info on the site if you're like me and enjoy charts.

That's a lot more poetic than...
My translation.   I came up with "Girl Mouth."  I bet he had fun in elementary school.

Loving Bocachica
Love the Hiram Bocachica acquisition. How will he look in his Padres uniform?

And who will get sent down - Robles?

Could be
I like an open competition between P Mac and Sledge until Giles returns.  Kind of a race to the bottom.

ESPN Article about Hoffman
Jim Caple doesn't think Hoffman belongs in the hall. What an idiot. and his argument doesn't make any sense, either. What a moron.

Be fair, RBS
He's said he's "undecided".

Not saying he's not a moron...because he is.

Jim Caple...
Pretty sure this is correct:

jim.caple@espn2.com

by Drama on Jun 1, 2007 8:42 AM PDT up reply actions

You can be fair
and still believe Jim Caple is a moron, because he is.  He lives in moronville, Joe Morgan is the mayor.

It's a nice article though
Seriously - when did ESPN notice that there is a team in San Diego??

I just like
saying Bocachica.

"Come on, Bocachica!"

"Nice job, Bocachica!"

"Watch our for that Giles, Bocachica!"

by Winfield's Ghost on Jun 1, 2007 8:45 AM PDT reply actions

Poor Bocachica
In the showers at RFK tonight...he's going to be so careful about keeping an eye out for the Giles brothers, he won't even notice Mad Dog creeping up ready to give him a very different type of shower.

ESPN First Take
Sitting here waiting for Adrian (& LT) to come on......

They just interviewed the winner of the National Spelling Bee.

That kid HAS TO BE the biggest geek that will EVER be on ESPN.

by jpleeg2 on Jun 1, 2007 9:56 AM PDT reply actions

they cover fantasy baseball on espn
So I seriously doubt if that kid even makes the top 50.

by Dex on Jun 1, 2007 10:24 AM PDT up reply actions

Agree to Disagree
Sorry, but I'd have to disagree with you on that one....  didya see the kid??  WOW!!

by jpleeg2 on Jun 1, 2007 10:40 AM PDT up reply actions

Adrian
What the hell was that? 3 mins??

by Drama on Jun 1, 2007 10:12 AM PDT reply actions

Weak!!
Yeah, it was about 3 minutes.  Idiot asked him what it feels like for him to turn it all around THIS season?  Did ESPN just realize that we have a team out here???  Way to do your homework dude... nevermind the year Adrian had last year, right?

Also, asking him about the A-Rod "HA" thing was pretty weak.  Put Adrian on the spot.  I'm just glad he responded like he did, that A-Rod did nothing wrong, and that the Blew Jays bitchin was out of line.

did he talk about being awesome?

did the phrase
"I feast on the sorrow of babes and smite all foes with the fury of ten thousand dragons; tremble before me, citizens of Earth" get tossed around at all?

Has anyone notice
that the Padres have the 3rd best Run Differential in MLB/
Red Sox - 79
Mets - 63
Padres -51

For those non statistics people, run differential has proven to be the best statistic in trying to determine future performance with a correlation of around .83, one-sided.

Right now the Padres expected win total is 96 wins, and the simulations give them a 63% chance to win the division and a 78% chance for the playoffs. (which is the 4th highest).

Don't get too excited
Last year on June 1, the Friars had 2.2% chance of winning the NL West, and we all know how that turned out. . . .

Stats
I did some simulations with a couple of d100 die where the Padres THACO rating was 20 and each player was using enchanted armor and vorpal bats. Turns out we have 79% chance of striking a critical blow on chaotic evil teams. Uh oh Voyager is on gotta split!

Just busting your balls with all that stat stuff... sounds like my friends when they played D&D. For your information, I did not play d&d, nor did I have any friends. It took me hours of looking this up on google.

Tony Gwynn
in 4 weeks he's only lost 5.9 lbs?

I think Screech lost more than that in 4 weeks on Celebrity Fit Club.

Only on Gaslamp Ball...
...can Screech and T. Gwynn end up in the same sentence.
