The Matt Bush Experiment

So remember awesome Matt Bush?  Remember when he played shortstop?  Remember how he was hitting .204 this year with 13 errors in 26 games at Single Freakin' A Lake Elsinore?

The Pads are now turning him into a pitcher.

maybe he's the next Trevor Hoffman.

Matt Bush....
It's too bad there wasn't a decent pitcher available for the Padres to select in that draft.

by Drama on May 31, 2007 2:32 PM PDT reply actions

I couldn't resist....
JUSTIN VERLANDER
JERED WEAVER
STEPHEN DREW
PHILIP HUGHES
HUNTER PENCE
HUSTON STREET

Just a few of the names that were called after Matt Bush was picked in the 2004 MLB Draft.

And that just covers the first two rounds.

the top two guys
Were Weaver and Drew and were considered unsignab le for the Padres. As for the others...I can't defend, they screwed up the scouting on that one.

Sometimes...
You just have to suck it up and deal with a prick agent if the talent is that good.  And I would call Verlander and Weaver in Petco good enough to suck it up and deal...

Weaver
Didn't ten other teams pass on him too?

by osbug on Jun 1, 2007 11:35 AM PDT up reply actions

Well...
I think the Tigers passing on him was pretty smart.

how in the hell?
How in the hell does Bill "Chief" Gayton still have his job. Effing Tim Stauffer and MattBush AS HIGH LEVEL BUSTS IN CONSECUTIVE YEARS!I know money comes into play, but they should have attained a relatively useful player.  FIRE HIS INCOMPETANT BUTT.
I'd love to face this guy every time i come to the park....and go 0-3

Ummm
Let's not just go throwing the word "bust" around so casually.

by Drama on Jun 1, 2007 7:31 AM PDT up reply actions

Those weren't Gayton's fault
The scouting department identified Stephen Drew as the guy they wanted.  They would have picked him.  Moores refused to sign off on it because of the money.

Stauffer revealed he had a serious arm injury after the Padres drafted him that they either didn't know about or he didn't suffer until after they drafted him.

Please don't let Cesar Carillo be a bust after he heals!!!

Talking of experiments...
hope nobody has Zambrano on their fantasy team.

by ABY on Jun 1, 2007 12:57 PM PDT reply actions

listen
someone has to be held accountable.....and it probably wont be john moores(call him scrooge)

and Drew was not the only quality player that could have been drafted instead of bush.....After all,Verlander signed for less than bush did, and i would take verlander over drew any day of the week

I'd love to face this guy every time i come to the park....and go 0-3

by Dinosaur on Jun 1, 2007 5:46 PM PDT reply actions

Moores is the boss.
He doesn't have to be held accountable for anything because he writes the checks. Besides, he has people that are held accountable for him.
THAT's why they call me...

by The Pickmaster on Jun 1, 2007 6:31 PM PDT up reply actions

And parenthetically
I took zambrano, but i released him and got Shields, so it probably worked out just as well
I'd love to face this guy every time i come to the park....and go 0-3
