Around SBN: Ellenberger vs. Sanchez Heats Up, Hughes Talks Retirement

Open Thread: First Time Commentors ONLY!

It's time to do a Gaslamp Ball Experiment!

I was talking to Dex about this last week.  Here we will have an open thread for Gaslamp Ballers who have never commented before.  They can talk about any subject or just say hi.

I just want to see what will happen.  What will you discuss?  What's been on your mind?  Let's find out!

Update [2007-5-29 16:13:14 by jbox]: Maybe nothing will happen.

If you've been lurking awhile and don't have an account you can Create a New Account here.

All are welcome!

Update [2007-5-29 16:39:26 by Dex]: I don't understand the rules. Am I allowed to respond to the first timers? -Dex

Update [2007-5-29 16:41:8 by jbox]: I was about to ask the same question. Who came up with this idea? Whoever it was didn't think it out too much. We finally get someone to comment and we aren't sure if we are allowed to respond to them. -jbox

Update [2007-5-29 16:41:57 by jbox]: Maybe we can get another first timer in there to pass a message along from us.

Update [2007-5-29 16:55:39 by jbox]: This was a weird idea. I'm really fighting the urge to reply to these new folks.

Update [2007-5-29 17:6:56 by jbox]: Man, this was a ridiculous idea. Really painted ourselves in a corner with this one.

Update [2007-5-29 18:19:54 by jbox]: This thread is now open to all!

CY
was it you who told me that CY was going to be in Fashion Valley this past weekend?  I remember somebody telling me that.

Gaslamp Baller Christina tells me that there is a 50% chance that she is going up to UTC next weekend.

by jbox on May 29, 2007 3:22 PM PDT up reply actions

Finally!
I have been given the green light to answer!

I am 50/50 on going to see CY on the 9th. Just have to see what else might be going on, but I would love to be there.

Hello
Hi guys,
I'm from Sportable.com and a huge Padres fan, being born and raised in San Diego.

I love the blog. I believe I saw you guys from a distance in line for tickets at a day game last month.

you're not the only one
and just so you know how easily amused I am, I enjoyed each and every awkward comment.

Sometimes I wonder if having no shame is a good thing or a bad thing.

my ringtone
Is Julio Iglesias singing a cover of Drive by The Cars. I picked it because I thought it would be really embarrassing for it to ring in inappropriate places. Sure enough, people have stared and I've been real embarrassed.

It's like some weird joke that I've played on myself. No one is safe. Not even me.

"Who's gonna drive you home..... tonight?"

by Dex on May 29, 2007 3:55 PM PDT up reply actions

mine is usually on vibrate,
but I fixed a friend of mine's to ring to 'Let's Hear It For the Boy' from Footloose.  He's kind of a dumby when it comes to technology, so it took him a few days to fix it.  I'd call him at what I knew would be very inopportune times.

Hell might be fun, right?

Hola.
Padres fan in NYC...  born and raised in San Diego, third base line season tickets at the Murph since 1981.  I have yet to Experience an inning of Padres Baseball this year as nothing has been televised back east.

I will be at Shea tonight if anyone has a specific taunt or jeer they'd like to send to Bonds, Klesko or Bochy.

by voidoid on May 29, 2007 2:33 PM PDT reply actions

Greetings...
I'm a lifelong Padres fan who has lurked around here for a few months.  I was born in San Diego, raised in Bakersfield, and currently live in Burbank.  Luckily, my dad still lives in SD and shares season tix with others at work, so he always sets a few games aside for me each year (Section 108, lower field boxes, just 3 rows behind the Visitor dugout...decent!)  I just came back from experiencing Peavy's excellent performance on Sunday, and I'm going back for a little Padres/Red Sox action on 6/23.  Can't wait!

I just want to say that I hate going to Dodgers games here in LA.  I can't stand the Dodgers, their stadium, or their fans.  I need to come up with an excuse to move away from here and settle down in SD, where going to the ballpark is always a pleasant experience...never surly.

Hope to post a few more comments here and there.  I'll try not to be as long-winded in any subsequent posts.  Glad to be here, though!

Meadows

PS: When will you have more "6 19 31 35 42" shirts available?  Or has it been retired?

by Mr Meadows on May 29, 2007 2:51 PM PDT reply actions

Meadows
We haven't retired the shirts, but we still haven't started outsourcing them yet.  Our t-shirt supplier was pissing us off and kept raising the prices and he wasn't good at working on a time line.  Pretty much we couldn't count on him.  Plus mailing out t-shirts was a pain.  We're going to try and work with this company that sells shirts for other blogs and they do all the work for you.  Which is nice.

I'm friends with a local merch company that specializes in band t-shirts.  What type of quantities are you looking to print up?  I can talk to him if you want.

shirts...
Yeah, I need a new one too. It seems all those super nachos I've consumed has forced me to super-size some of my clothes.

The best part about my current gaslamp-t is the "6" is wearing off, I think all the shirts should have it where the 6 just comes off after a while.

Cool About the Shirts....
I'm in for one when they become available again.

Yeah, the numbers do wear off.  Still awesome, though!

I'm new too.  See, the new commenters' thread WAS a good idea.

Numbers
Do they wear off completely or just kinda fade? Cause I kinda like the look once they start to fade.

by Dex on May 29, 2007 3:41 PM PDT up reply actions

Numbers
Mine are starting to crack a little.  I think less time in the dryer and it'll last for a while.

I wash it with my delicates
I use a liquid soap and put it on the delicate cycle in cold water.  Then I only wash it with my bikini briefs and silk tank tops.

I had been enjoying the comments...
And then you go and say something like that.

Now I'm having flashbacks to Dex talking about "outfits" and everyone else having to break it to him that guys don't wear "outfits".

You guys scare me sometimes, but in a good way.

My numbers are still good
Maybe the guy that was making them got really sloppy in the last couple of batches.  Sorry about that.

by jbox on May 29, 2007 3:42 PM PDT up reply actions

I "am" stunned
that the inclusion on this thread of the likes of jbox has resulted in the conversation devolving into discussions on sexy loads of laundry.

I want one of those shirts, too.

Hey, does anyone know more about Chris Young being at UTC?  I live right by there and would love to go ogle him from afar in a slightly non-homosexual way.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

New Girl!!!
Hi, I have been reading your comments for about a year now.  I finally created an account!!  I love all your funny comments and hope to join the game threads (I'm Shy!!) soon.  Thanks for making the games fun even when they lose.  See ya!

Don't be too shy
Glad you're going to join the open threads.

This new Gaslamp Baller open thread has suddenly turned into a success!  It's a miracle it cures shyness!

Hi
I am a semi-frequent poster at RedReporter (as I am from cincinnati) and I'm trying my arse off to be a Padres fan, and frequently checking this site is a part of the process.  I have to admit, at the very least, you are very entertaining bunch over here.  Oh, and your team is actually pretty good (Go Mike Cameron!)

by TheDude @ Gaslamp Ball on May 30, 2007 10:05 AM PDT reply actions

so this is a blog
i have heard about these things for decades, never saw one in person.  fantastic.

do i have to like baseball to be on here? 'cause i don't really, but i am a big dex fan.  his blogging riffs are compelling, and rich, and they smell of mahogany and leather bound books.  a true inspiration.

pssst. dex.  flashthepan.
