Ichiro a Padre

Well, not yet.  But there is a good chance that he will be one next year.  Sources close to Matty V.  tell him that Ichiro's agent (a San Diegan) has been talking to Kevin Towers.  Ichiro's contract is up this year. Seattle may want to deal Ichiro a bit earlier to try and get something for him.

Some might say this is crazy talk.  But it's not that crazy if you think about it.  The Padres definitely need the speed.  He's good for at least .320 if not .350.  Seattle will most likely be out of the race come July, and let's hope the Pads are in the thick of things.

The whole Ichiro coming to San Diego has been mentioned before:

How much?
Would it cost to get Ichiro?  Would he choose us over a big market team so he can stay on the West coast?

What a coup
It would be to steal him from our HATED ARCH RIVALS!!!!

...The Seattle Mariners.

He's normal except for the tanning booths, shaving his body, and walking around with no clothes.

Rival
Love how the M's are our natural rival.

Ichiro for Linebrink
and we'll throw in Mike Cameron...I'm sure he'd love to go back to Seattle.

And we'll throw in passes to Sea World

How about...

Seriously we should do something like this
We should start gathering signatures of Padres fans and letters to Ichiro telling him how much we'd love to have him here. Then we compile statistics as to the San Diego Japanese community and stuff like that. Find out his favorite types of foods and provide a restaurant list.

WE NEED TO DO OUR PART AS THE 10TH MAN.

10th man?
Is that right? not the 26th man? or the 41st man?

They got 9 on the field
So we're the 10th man. Just like football's 12th man or basketball's 6th man.

I'm in
Lets start a website devoted to acquiring Ichiro. We need to free him from certain 100 loss pain in Seattle and deliver him to the 73 degrees and sunny land of Southern Cal.

I'd be cool with it
We'd get those Japanese fans who play drums in the stands and stuff. Towers, make it happen!

As long as we're discussing mid-30s RFs
...that we won't sign, what about Jermaine Dye?  Right handed, could hit 30+ HRs (career OBP aint nuthin to write home about).  Not that I would expect him to hit anything like 2006 (when he was basically playing whatever sport Arod is now).  He could still hit decently 4th/5th.

Although I wouldn't mind seeing an Ichiro slap single and Giles BB to bring up A-Gon every game (despite his having led the NL in GDP last year).

I'm still bored at work.

Bored at work?
I'm pretty sure I know what you do or at least where you work and you're bored? There are boring days there?

by Dex on Apr 30, 2007 5:33 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

ok
Maybe not bored, just burnt out from a long weekend.  Also, I don't want Jermaine Dye on the Padres.

Count me in...
Don't the Pads have close ties to one of the Japanese teams or agents or something like that?
