Around SBN: Notre Dame's Turnaround: How Have The Irish Done It?

Will Milton Bradley be a distraction? Probably. Do we care? No.

I haven't been keeping up with all the Winter Meeting's trades and gossip but heard on the radio that the Pads have offered Milton Bradley a one year deal for approximately $4 million.  Sandy says that they are expecting Milton to be ready at the beginning of the season.  A physical is pending.

Mighty XX:  Sandy Alderson Interview

"Philly Billy" Werndl and Darren Smith think that Bradley is too much of a distraction.  You know what else is a distraction?  A team that can't hit.  They also think that he isn't a good role model for the children.  You know who else is a bad role model for children?  A line up full of guys that can't hit.  Actually I made that part up, they don't care about the children like I do.  Bradley can rake and if he's going to have a temper tantrum every once in awhile so be it.

There is also a worry that Bradley can't stay healthy, but Sandy said that there are incentives for him to stay healthy and they are going to roll the dice.

Darren and Philly Billy asked Sandy about Bradley being a distraction about 20 different ways.  Sandy is like "haven't I answered this question already?"

An interesting part of the interview was when Sandy was talking about how the players in the clubhouse do like Milton because he showed up for Brian Giles' wedding in Maui.  Sandy stutters and stumbles, deciding how to describe the Brian Giles wedding that our sources have told us didn't happen.

Oh and Cameron's return hinges on Fukudome. Fukudome was extended one of the biggest offers in Padres history.  Now they play the waiting game.

Not a distraction, an alarm clock!
I, for one have been driven to distraction by the lack of offense. MB can clear up that distraction pretty quick.

i am really excited they are bringin MB back
he brought an excitement to padres baseball I haven't seen in years.  He also could hit like a mad man.  During his brief time he really showed how clutch, how motivated, and how exciting of a player he can be.   For the cheap price they are bringing him back for they are getting a steal.  This is a guy who if healthy i could see having a .280 avg with 25-30 homers and 90+ rbis.  He is a time bomb waiting to go off always, but the intensity that drives that time bomb also makes him a great ball player.  i really hope he can stay healthy.  Besides signing Bradley increases our chances tenfold of having at least one brawl and I really enjoy watching the padres throw some punches.

For some reason I feel bad for Milton.   He is kinda a tragic character.  He got labeled as a bad guy and it has haunted him to this day.  By being labeled people treat him like a bad guy and that pisses him off even more and he just makes it all worse.  From his interviews that I have watched he  is so soft spoken and seems like a pretty nice guy.  Hes not like some TO or Chad Johnson type who acts ridiculous on the field and off the field...he just brings the intensity when he plays the game.  I love when the players show emotion and are passionate about each and every game, and that is one thing Bradley showed last year..no one can say he doesn't care like some past padre players have (coughkleskocough).  theres always gonna be people who will hate him and write him off because of his anger problems, but we could be getting a player who has potential to put up better stats that andruw jones (only if jones repeats his 06 perfromance) for a fraction of the cost.

now if we could just get damn fukudome

Love. All he needs is love.
Tell MB everyday how much you want him on your team, how wonderful you think he is, and watch him rip the cover off of the ball.  A lot of ballplayers have "issues"-he just doesn't hide them well.  This is a great signing for us.

Love The Move
Baseball is entertainment.  That's all it is.  Guys who can hit are entertaining.  Guys who strike out 150 times are not.  Guys who get f-bombs thrown at them by dirt bag, loser umps are entertaining.  Guys with two performance-enhancing strikes against them are not entertaining.  (But man, it sure was fun watching Cameron leg out a triple; that was cool, when it happened.)  Let's have a nice round of applause for Mike and Vanna can hand him a lovely parting gift.

Though coming back from the ACL tear, Bradley is skilled enough to play center.  Of that, there should be no question.  Fukudome is said to be able to play center, too, though he's only roamed the Little League-sized outfields of Japan.  He is a right fielder with a plus arm (I went to the WBC in Anaheim and here).  Stick him in right.  Move Gillie to left where he belongs (he doesn't have an arm.)  Let Hairston play some LF while Gillie heals up.  And LF will be less taxing on Gillie, too.

Lame interview
I liked listening to the frank yet guarded Alderson, but what a lame interviewer - the worst kind of sensational sports journalism just harping on one issue - Bradley's temper and in the clubhouse - that will get the most play on talk radio.  Those guys really stink.

take notice: Almon following Enzo Hernandez, just like '75-76 for the Pads.

Fukudome
Every time I see that name in print, I think of Good fellas crossed with 2 Live Crew.

Fukudome
Ken Rosenthal from FOX is reporting that Fukudome has decided to leave Japan to play in the majors next season.
His decision on whether to join the Cubs, Padres or an unidentified third finalist might come as soon as late Friday night or early Saturday, sources say.

To add to the frustration
Kosuke has NOT decided he is leaving Japan yet. Looks like we still have awhile to go before he makes a decision =/

You can't return food
