Jim Leyritz drives drunk, kills woman (allegedly)

Jim Leyritz, apparently wanting to save money on cab fare, decided to kill somebody by driving drunk. Driving drunk is the ultimate douchebag move. I don't care if you've driven drunk and managed not to kill anybody. You're an idiot for doing so and if you don't realize you were being an idiot, then you're a total asshole to be sure. If you're insulted by that, then don't ever visit this site, you douchebag asshole.

If you're Jim Leyritz and it's your birthday and you're planning on partying, then open up the wallet a bit and hire a limo or take a cab. At the very least hand the keys to somebody not drunk. The wrong move is to go ahead and kill a woman. I hate drunk drivers.

I saw that
on CNN, saying it was an ex-Yankee, but I didn't click on it.  Man that sucks, feel so bad for that lady her and her family.  I'm not sure how you live with yourself after driving drunk and killing somebody.

living with it aint good
there was a kid here who killed some of his friends while driving drunk. They were all around 14-16 at the time. Sean Larimer speaks often at high schools in our area and to hear him tell it, it is a torture like no other. Don't do it people! Get a ride!

and...
I don't get why people wanna drive so bad anyway. It's much more pleasant to let somebody drive you.

Honestly...
i already had plenty of reasons to dislike leyritz but this moves him permanently to the Waste of Skin list for me. What a jackass. Condolences and prayers to the family and friends of his victim.

I agree with everything you said.
As somebody who got a DUI, that might sound odd, but I do. I was fortunate not to kill or hurt anyone, but that doesn't make it any less reprehensible. I had thirty days to think about it and at first I tried to rationalize it by trying to tell myself that it wasn't my fault because he gave me my keys back and I didn't even know I was driving, blah, blah, blah but that didn't hold water because at the core I knew that I was the one who put myself in that situation in the first place...

A lot of people say that they feel sorry for the criminals that "made a mistake" and "have to live with it". Aw, poor them. That's the nature of consequences, natural and imposed; when people pity them, they're forgetting that they made the bed they're lying in. At least Leyritz is alive to feel like shit. That woman can't feel like shit even if she wanted to. No sympathy from me.

I like your attitude
Believe me, I know people who've made that dumb decision to drive when they shouldn't and these are people that are close to me and that I respect, but part of that respect includes the fact that they would recognize the dumb decision that was made.

I know I'm probably harsh, but I feel perfectly comfortable saying that it was an excessively dumb thing for you to do, but I respect you for realizing it.

Thanks, Dex.
I don't think you were harsh at all. When somebody's done something like that, they don't need someone to rub their shoulders and tell them they're okay, they need to know that there's nobody who finds their actions acceptable...

What I left out of my original rant was that the whole time I was in jail I didn't feel any self-pity, only gratitude. I was so thankful that nobody had to go to any funerals for it. I hid under my blanket silently crying at the thought of my mother getting the call that her son died; since then I haven't even driven to anywhere I'd be drinking...

I always get a laugh out of
the guys with a perfectly smooth dome and a George Michaels shadow. In a hurry, Jim? ...From what I've heard about actual prison, I also find irony in the fact that the King and his swingin' wife won't have a say as to the extramarital affairs that will be happening inside of him.

wow...
(no pun intended) i read that jimmy paid $11,000 for his bail, now couldn't he have used that money for a taxi cab, and all this would've been avoided.......

i did the same thing when i was 25
i was lucky in two ways: I didn't hurt anyone, and I got a chance to realize what a douche move it was (as Dex pointed out). I swear had i not been busted, i'd have ended up hurting someone, or worse.
Having given up a year of my licensed driving and thousands in fines, lawyers fees, and increased insurance, as well as having to call my mom to pick me up from jail (most humiliating moment of my life), I still consider myself lucky that I got to realize what a jackass thing to do that is. It ended up changing everything about how I drive, and live. I still drink, but I keep it at home, and don't drive.
It's a simple rule but for some reason it's hard to get into people's heads. Stay safe over New Year's everyone...there's going to be a lot of assholes drunk on the road. keep your head on a swivel.

Shit!
Damn! Jim Leyritz! He made such a tragedy! I hate those drunk drivers. I am sure Leyritz knows that drivers with high blood alcohol content or concentration are at greatly increased risk of car accidents, highway injuries and vehicular deaths. But sadly he did the damning thing. Here is a book, I think, is a warning to those people who take careless of driving drunk: http://dealstudio.com/searchdeals.php?deal_id=75562 , I think only they recognized the harm, every single injury and death caused by drunk driving could be totally preventable.
