A Playoff Metaphor

Ok this probably isn't going to make sense, but try and follow me here.  The playoffs are like a hot chick.  All these other dudes (teams) are battling for her affections all season long.  When you or your team loses out, why would you suddenly start rooting for one of the other guys to get in her pants?  When your team is out you should call the Playoffs a skank and move on, right?

These people that root for the NL West teams in the Playoffs just because the Padres lost are wrong.  You should never root for your rival or another team for that matter.  I submit to you that even watching the playoffs when your team is eliminated is a voyeuristic activity.  It's like watching a video of your rival foolin' around with the chick that should have been yours.

It's not a case of animosity necessarily.  It's like "Ok dude, you're the better man but don't expect me to be celebrating with you later".

Thats stupid :)
Baseball is bigger than just The Padres :)

Or, to follow your metaphor...
we can't get the girl anymore, so we may as well root for the guy who's the least like a douchebag, right?

If Boston wins, all it proves is that girls follow money. If girls follow money, as San Diego, we're fucked cause we don't have that much.

Given that this year, we CAN'T have the girl and somebody else WILL get the girl, we may as well hope it's not somebody totally lame - but instead somebody like ourselves, so it gives people hope that we can get the girl next year.

These are good points
but still this year I heard the playoffs have the clap, so we didn't want them anyway.

by jbox on Oct 11, 2007 11:37 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

that's gross!
Next year's a different girl. You want sloppy seconds!

Hey everybody! Brad wants sloppy seconds!

Ha Ha!
I was thinking the same thing.

ewwwwww
I agree with Dex. Each year, all the teams are chasing after a new girl.... its just better that way, because I would rather not think of the playoffs as a two-timing whore.

I missed something
What the hell? :)

Where did I say it was the same girl? Of course its a new girl each year. Thats the whole point of what I was saying. It's like some dating show - each year, new girl, new things to offer.

Girls girls girls
This why I love seeing the Yankees eliminated.

If the Dodgers end up with the girl, it's even worse. Luckily, I don't think the Dodgers like girls.

by Goofus on Oct 11, 2007 12:34 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

haha
the dodgers are so gay.

by Dex on Oct 11, 2007 12:57 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

by Goofus on Oct 11, 2007 12:59 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

So does this mean
that if I impress a girl 4 out of 7 times she will come home with me?

by sacpadre on Oct 11, 2007 11:48 AM PDT   0 recs

4 out of 7 times...
will get you a ring with this lady.

what do you mean by "impress"?
Some girls claim that they don't get "impressed" until they're in their 30s. Other girls can only be "impressed" with a lot of foreplay and a glass of wine.

the playoffs are a slut
even if it is a new girl every year they always give it up in the end.  just once id like to see the girl walk away and not let anyone get the girl.  i guess thats what the girl did in 94 strike season.

basically i don't want to see the rich guy basically buy the girl with 160 mil. i don't really want to see some young guys (dbacks, rockies) get the girl, because the padres team doesnt have much youth. i dont want to see the guy who punched us directly in the gut to knock  us out of contention for the girl win. i guess i will hope the indians win.  for the next few weeks i can live vicariously through the indians and just imagine that its the padres and try and imagine what it would be like to get the girl for once.

besides, any guy who beats up the two biggest douchebags in the world (yanks, sox) is someone i could get along with and relate to.

makes me feel better about not getting into the girls room and fucking it up again like the past 2 years.

i hate tony gwynn jr.

Indians need love
I am hoping the Indian gets the hot chick seeing how he has gotten so close to her in the past.  Plus the fact that I don't want the NL West guys bragging about it for a whole year and the creeps in Boston to get her as well.

Exactly
I don't wanna go into Coors or Chase field 20+ times next year or every other year thereafter for that matter and see a damn World Series flag flying. The NLCS flag is gonna be hard enough to swallow.

GO TRIBE!!

I agree...maybe...
I like your analogy, but as that I live here in Denver (was raised in SD) and have been here ever since the Rockies have been a team, I find myself rooting for the Rockies.  But let me say I am a Pads fan way above any other team, including the Rockies, and I was crushed and pissed off when they lost that last game.  But I'm over it (sort of) but it's time for me to root for team I can actually go and see the whole year...

Perfect as always
Jbox.

Great way to look at the playoffs.

by thenerdhater on Oct 11, 2007 2:42 PM PDT   0 recs

This would've been better
if you'd substituted The Dome for the hot chick.

by Winfield's Ghost on Oct 11, 2007 3:25 PM PDT   0 recs

This may sound werid
but watching the Dbags and the Rocks duke it out on National Tv for a spot in the World Series is just kind of satisfying, like it validates how good our division is and how good our team was this year, that we almost and should have taken both of these teams out. Like if it was the Cubs and the Phils playing we would think that oh, our division just sucks and it was a fluke, but this is the real deal. I obviously dont' want either of them to win and I hate the fucking red sox, so I guess I want the Indians to win, but it is just a little satistfying to watch this nlcs.
Let's go drink some beer.

Tony Gwynn
on TBS almost feels like he's cheating on Matt & Mudd.
Matt Holliday never touched the plate and Tim McClellan knows it.

So the playoffs are like
an episode of I Love New York?
