Jose Canseco is playing baseball again... in SAN DIEGO!!! WTF!?!?!?!?!

WTF!?!?! WTF!?!?!?

Mighty 1090 is reporting that Jose Canseco is playing baseball for the San Diego Surf Dawgs this season! He'll be DH, but the big trick... He will be coming out of the bullpen as a relief pitcher throwing a knuckleball.

How awesome is this? Let me count the ways...

  1. It's f_cking Jose Canseco.

  2. It's Jose Canseco playing with independent league ballplayers.

  3. It's Jose Canseco throwing a knuckleball
I can't even begin. I don't even know what to say...

I'm about to throw up from the shock to my system. The sheer volume of delight. I'm so delighted. I can not wait to see Juiced himself. I have to buy the book now. I have to get an autograph. I'm freaking out. I'm so excited. I'm so excited.

I'm going to admit to you this... Back in the day... when Li'l Dex was in middle school out in La Mesa, California, Li'l Dex was really into the A's. I'm not even sure I knew what I was talking about when I gushed over them, but I loved Rickey Henderson. I thought it was awesome how they had Canseco and Mark McGwire. I loved when Rickey came to San Diego (all three times) and now, having Canseco... In San Diego... Playing for the Surf Dawgs... I'm completely flabbergasted.

Please, wear this outfit. Please Please Please Please.

Update [2006-6-29 23:13:19 by Dex]: They're saying that part of the deal secures Canseco a clothing line! CLOTHES! CANSECO! My brain is exploding.

Update [2006-6-29 23:30:53 by Dex]: ESPN has the story. From the article: "The GBL is essentially baseball's lowest rung." That's a little rude. I kinda enjoyed the games last season.

Canseco
What's the over/under on Canseco blowing out his arm?

Do they test in the GBL?
I don't think Canseco has given up the roids

Supposedly
They test constantly. Somewheres I read that it's like a daily test or something ridiculous like that.

Promo night
Maybe they can have a promotion where some lucky fan will get to administer the test from Canseco.

How?
How can this fly by nigh league afford to test?

by Jonny Dub on Jun 30, 2006 10:18 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think
the players piss on a strip of paper and if it turns green (color of the Hulk) then they're using steroids.

Real cheap way to test.

More accurate
I'm sure that would be more accurate than the MLB system.

What MLB system?
"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

BP Pizza Feed *tonight* - ticket available
Hey, GLB'ers, I just learned I've got an extra ticket for tonight's game and the pre-game BP Pizza Feed ... so, assuming you're not the type to get too upset that the event does NOT include any free pizza, let me know if you need a ticket ... if you don't get a reply from me, presume I'm already headed down to The Field (http://www.thefieldirishpub.com/) for a pre-PizzaFeed shepard's pie :-)  I'll be at The Field at ~4pm ... stop by and say Hi to the guy in the Eugene Emeralds hat!

Free food? ... perhaps!
The Field's website mentions "Join us every Friday from 4pm - 7pm for happy hour food and drink specials. Free Happy Hour Buffet!" ... here's their Happy Hour menu ... http://www.thefieldirishpub.com/food/happy-hour.html ... good stuff!

Hey Dex...
... if you go to a Surf Dawgs game, tell their backup catcher that Al from the Wrigley Field bleachers says "Hey".

Kevin and his dad and his brothers are friends of mine.

OK done
We'll probably hit at least 2 or 3 SurfDawgs games. I imagine Monday might be crowded, but there will be a game or two when I'll be able to just shout over the other dozen people that are there.
