What would you do if you sucked at something you're getting paid to be good at?

Take any profession you'd like. For my example, I'll say chef. You're a professional cook. What would you do if the food you were making started to suck really badly? It didn't taste good. People were getting sick from it. What do you think you'd do?

If you're the San Diego Padres, you'd call it a slump and wait it out.

Take another profession. Bus driver. What would you do if you were a bus driver and you kept going to the wrong stops. You literally did not know how to get from one stop to the next. What would you do then?

If you're the San Diego Padres, you'd call it a slump and wait it out.

Do I need to do another one?

During last night's broadcast, Leitner was saying something about how when "the entire team goes into a slump, you just have to wait it out." How exactly is it possible that "waiting it out" is the only solution?

Who exactly is Dave Magadan having sex with that he still has a job? Hasn't he been a complete failure? After a while, don't you figure that it's not just the players trying to adapt to the system? What the heck kind of system is it that produces two hitters with batting averages over .300 in four years?

Maybe we should fire Balsley? Ummmmm... The pitchers have been excellent, why would you fire Balsley?

Let's fire the batboy then? Well, actually, the batboy's pretty good at getting the bats and stuff.

Let's fire the guy who sells peanuts? Nope. Those peanuts get sold.

Well then, let's think of what we completely stink at. What do we utterly suck at. Who's in charge of that? Who could possibly be responsible for how well we're doing at that...

Hmmmmmmmm....

Tony Muser
was singing the praises of Dave Magadan yesterday on 1090.  Fire him too umm for lying!

The funny thing is
guys have been fired for WAY less.  Dave Magadan can take a team into a batting slump quicker than anybody.  Two teams (2005, 2006) and they have so many different guys but they both can't hit.

this is pretty deletable
Is there a reason why I shouldn't delete it other than I like the user name?

I'm Rick James, bitch!

Also
I've deleted spam before, but it's always been anonymous. This particular spam created a username and then spammed. Unless it's somehow not spam and I don't realize it...

midseaso firing
What's the worst that could happen? Could they possibly produce less offense?

Actually, that'd be something to see.

I deleted it
If RickJamez posts something nonsensical and spammy like that again, the username will be banned.

What did the five fingers say to the face?

SLAP!

Mags
Sbeck and I were just talking about this... Mags may be a nice guy and all.  But he really sucks.  And I ain't paying to see bunch of nice guys on the field.  I'm paying to see nice guys who can play.  Which brings me to my next point...Who can't play better than these guys.  Pretty much any red blooded American can field a baseball.  It takes a ton of skill to hit.  Why not just put a bunch of guys out there from off the street.  At least you wouldn't be paying them.

would...
the pads be better off with burroughs, loretta and klesko?  prolly not- not sure what other changes the front office could have made...

Maybe...
Could they possibly have been worse? Also, don't forget that Loretta was pretty much the only guy who was any sort of consistent hitter during the Mags era.

Look at the Lineup
I think we all feel that there is potential. These guys can produce runs. They've just never done it with consistency. I keep expecting for this team to start clicking. When Rettenmund was the hitting coach, I feel that he got guys to overachieve. Retts was ultimately fired from the Braves after they produced low batting numbers as a team. The reason was, you can't fire the team if they aren't hitting well, so you fire the hitting coach. It might not be the right answer, but it's a start. If the Padres don't turn it around this week, somebody has to got to go. Maybe not Boch, not yet. Firing Mags might not be the solution, but it's a start.

The problem starts @ KT
C'mon -- did ANYBODY think this rag-tag line up was going to do anything? With NO starting pitching outside of Peavy? Shawn Estes the #2?
No frickin' way.

Start with the offense I think
Young is really the #2 and he's been great. Woody's been solid. Chan Ho's been solid. The relief pitching is solid.

To me, when nobody on the team hits, you should probably talk to the hitting coach.

Pitching was supposed to be the problem
but it's been good so far, if you don't think about cowcat.
