The WBC's so great

Here are today's reason why I love the WBC.

  • Ichiro getting booed by the Korean Fans

  • Chan Ho Park: Sometime lights out closer. Other times lights out starter.

  • The green Team Mexico hats. Sick.

  • Sadaharu Oh. That guy's so cool.
As a bonus, here's a great article postulating a football-like schedule for baseball. It is really interesting to think about. What if baseball was always like this? Where you get hosed one game and you suddenly realize, "oh, you mean we don't still have 93 games left in the season?"

Could you imagine the differences if baseball only played, say 18 games in a season? I'd probably say the roster sizes would have to be set at right around 15 players. No disabled list. Really, what's the use of having any more than that? Those would be fun games to watch. Take away the leisurely pace and see what happens.

whoa
anyone following the Korea-Japan game on Gameday? I was doing the stilted play-by-play for the whole fam.
Don't want to give anything away for those waiting on the replay...

It's done!
I'm gonna feel bad for Japan if (when?) they don't make it out of this bracket. The one bad call in the U.S. game leaves them out of San Diego. Ichiro was pissed.

Love the WBC
Watching the game last night I really loved how much the international fans get into the game. The Koreans last night were partying the whole time with chants and drums and crazy banners. I loved it. I'm going to the semis on Saturday (if it doesn't get rained out) and am hoping for a festival atmosphere like last night... and hopefully the US will be there.

What a great game that was...
last night.  I caught the whole thing of Cox Channel 4.  If you are a baseball fan, and you saw and didn't enjoy that Japan/Korea game last night, then there is no hope for you...AT ALL!

Sad USA
What a sad game that was.  Only one stinkin run could they score.  For a country that has had baseball longer than any other, it sure sucks that they're not even in the semifinals.  Now I don't know what to do with my tickets.  I'm not sure I care about Cuba and the Dominican Republic.  Could be interesting possibly, and I guess I'd root for the Dominican since Cuba is a complete unknown.  Sad, sad sad that we can't see Jake Peavy pitch.  I'm sure he's really bummed too.  16 Days until opening day!!  Dex, where is the countdown?  Shouldn't we have one somewhere on the site?  Or maybe I'm just missing it.

Didn't put up a countdown
I could find one if you'd like.

Don't worry about no USA. Honestly, I think the best teams are coming to San Diego. The US team didn't come prepared and it really shouldn't have been as close as it was.

Look at it this way. This will give us a chance to see if Chan Ho is for real, and it gives Jake a chance to settle in for some proper work to prepare for the season.

Also, with Japan in, we can watch this dude pitch the Gyroball. I should put a post up about that.

Dex as always you are correct...
The best teams are coming to town.  Also, this is probably the best thing that could have happened for the game of baseball.  I bought my Japanese language tapes tonight.  Okane!

I like the idea
Playing a 16 game season would be exciting.  But we'd miss out on so much baseball.

There are a lot of good points to playing high intensity games with the absolute best players as focused as they can be.

But would you trade 162 games for 16?  A lot of the fun of baseball is jabbering about what ifs during the season.  That goes away if there are fewer games.

What's wrong with that?
Does Peyton Manning start every game for the Colts? What about Tomlinson?
