Gaslamp Ball Exclusive Interview: Bochy for Mayor campaign

We wanted to find out a little more about the Bochy for Mayor campaign. Is this campaign about more than some really slick t-shirts and a couple of Adult Swim style cartoons? (There's a new one featuring Brian Giles if you've already seen the first.)

We fired off five quick questions and here's what we got:

Gaslamp Ball: Could you summarize for our readers what Bochy brings to the table that the other candidates don't?

Bochy For Mayor: Padres manager since 1994, Padres player for 6 years before that, winningest manager in Padres history, 1996 National League Manager of the Year, National League West titles in 1996 and 1998, World Series in 1998... What other candidate can claim all that?

GLB: There's a rumor going round that the Bochy for Mayor campaign is actually a ploy to get Mark Grant and John Weisbarth off of television and onto the city council. Can you confirm or deny these rumors? Bonus question: Could it be that YOU are John Weisbarth?!

BFM: Grant is our hero for the shillelagh... Weisbarth is a buddy of ours from high school... Forget City Hall, this pair should make a run at the White House in '08.

GLB: Are there skeletons in Bochy's closet that we should know about? They'll surface sooner or later, so you might as well tell us now.

BFM: He was born in France!

GLB: Fill in the blanks: Bochy is to the mayor's office as ________ is to ___________.

BFM: Bochy is to the mayor's office as John Rambo is to Vietnam.

GLB: Finally, If Bochy gets elected Mayor, will he be able to run the Padres as well? If he can't, then who will run the Padres?

BFM: Donna Frye!

Good interview! High fives all around. But what did we learn? Hmmmmm...

  • Weisbarth's got some kooky friends.

  • Bochy's from France which is explains his large head.

  • The Bochy/Rambo comparison is good.
It shows that Bochy would do his job with a psychologically unhealthy commitment and determination. Let's just hope that his campaign will do everything it might take to win.

Bochy For Mayor Campaign: "Ummmmmm... Hey Boch. Yeah, we're thinking it's over. We're not gonna be able to do it. Maybe you should go back to managing the Pads."

Bochy: "Nothing is over! Nothing! You just don't turn it off! It wasn't my war! You asked me, I didn't ask you! And I did what I had to do to win! But somebody wouldn't let us win! And I come back to the world and I see all those maggots at the airport, protesting me, spitting. Calling me baby killer and all kinds of vile crap! Who are they to protest me? Who are they? Unless they've been me and been there and know what the hell they're yelling about!"

Bochy For Mayor Campaign: "Ummmm... Yeah..."

Good interview
Funny stuff.  I like those cartoons and the shirts.  I didn't realize these are Weisbarth's friends.  That's good.

I'll vote for him.
