Well that's just f__king great...
More thoughts about Jake's broken rib. I'm almost completely not surprised that something like this would happen to the 2005 Padres. Game 1 vs the Cardinals was the Padres 2005 regular season in a nutshell. It had everything we've been feeling, nicely summed up in the course of a midday game.
You have all the runners left stranded by untimely hitting. You have the on again off again starting pitching. You have the excellent bullpen. Sloppy baserunning. Questionable defense.
The whole game, just like the whole season, you think to yourself, "If they could just kinda get it together, I can see how this would be a good team." A couple breaks here and there, shape up that defense, be a little more patient at the plate and we could do something good.
Jake's injury just tops everything off. It's the culminating feeling of doom and yet, we're still here. We're in the same position as the Red Sox and the Angels. We're still in the postseason, but somehow it just feels like we're delaying the inevitable.
I know it sounds pessimistic, but all we've been hearing about is the fact that with Jake Peavy, we have a shot in a short series. Now, it's like the Baseball Gods have decided to say, "Well now how do you feel?"
I swear we're being toyed with.

I feel the same way
Then I think...Figures! Just what you were saying. This is just our luck. Padres will never win a World Series. This is becoming like a curse. It's like a big tease.
Then I'm sad and ready to cry because Jake is out for the season.
Then I'm mad and wish we didn't have to rely on him so much.
Then I get this Sweeney-like attitude and think, "Who says we can't win it all without Jake". Yeah, we couldn't have gotten to this position without him, yet now that he got the team here, it's time for them to step up and support him for all the games they didn't. Time for them to score some runs that should have gone into giving Peavy more wins earlier in the season when he had only given up a couple hits and 1 run.
Come on Padres!!! You're a team, not one person.
The eternal optimist in me just won't give up, no matter how much my heart aches now. I will sleep on this tonight, and tomorrow I will actually be optimistic. I'm thinking I will at least, since that seems to be my trend. This bites though. I'm sorry, but it really does.

Yes!
I think the Padres can turn it around, but this was definietly a demoralizing blow (not to mention Peavy's rib!) after two weeks of stellar play. Ugh, I feel horrible.

Dude, Anonymous Hero
And Izzy got the strikeout AFTER GIVING UP 5 RUNS.
Not to mention the fact that Ramon decided to be Mr. Superhero and help your "closer" out by swinging at three pitches well off the plate.
All in all, I'd say the Cardinals got lucky.
Thanks for getting me psyched about Thursdays game. You dudes are done.

What did I tell you about Cardinals fans?
Oh, BS! They are nice to the media. Everybody likes to be on TV. They are not very friendly in their Red Hole, in person. They are so full of themselves -- just like Green Bay Packers fans -- and need to be taken down notch or two. Go for it.

WTF?
Why don't you spend your free time contemplating why the owners are going to offer an extension to Dusty Baker and why they gave three years to your "closer"?
