Boston, MA (Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox placed starting pitcher Josh Beckett on the 15-day disabled list Friday with right elbow inflammation. On Thursday, the club scratched Beckett from his scheduled start against the Chicago White Sox. He was to meet with specialist Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama Friday but the results of the meeting are unknown. Daisuke Matsuzaka, entering the game at 15-2, is expected to take the hill for Boston on Friday. Beckett has not pitched since August 17, when he was tagged for eight hits and eight runs in only 2 1/3 innings in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. The 28-year-old is 11-9 this season with a 4.34 earned run average in 23 starts. To fill the roster spot, the Red Sox recalled catcher David Ross from Triple-A Pawtucket.
