Tiebreaking Time
Deep down you just knew we were going to have to play this game. Okay maybe not that deep down. The Pads like to do everything the hard way.
Game on Monday is at 4:37pm PST at Coors Field in Colorado.
Jake Peavy (19-6, 2.36) vs. Josh Fogg (10-9, 4.79)
Does this mean we don't get a Rally Monday? I hope they open up the Park in the Park to watch the game. I'm going down there if they do.
This one is for all the marbles. Who's nervous?

With Jake pitching?
We are Daniel-san. Johnny just swept the leg. We are hobbled. It's time to crane kick someone in the f*cking face.
LET'S GO PADRES!

pretty sure it's in philly
theoretically, of course.
tomko won't be on the playoff roster. after CY's last start, he looked healthy enough to start a playoff game. but my guess would be they go with maddux, which i'm comfortable enough with. how many play-off games has that guy been in anyway?
oh. right. he's been in 32 playoff games. 194 innings. with a career 3.34 ERA.*
*(forget last year's performance with the dodgers. put it out of your mind.)
That's right

Nervous?
Three things Colorado has going for them:
- Dangerous hitters in their lineup
- Momentum
- Home-field advantage
1. Jake Peavy
Should even out, no?
Seriously, though, I'm with freelunch. I believe Peavy can keep the Rockies in check, but as mediocre as Fogg is, I have the sinking feeling that our offense is going to be flat tomorrow. If that's the case, it will be like the game Peavy threw agains the Rockies last week: he kept them to 1 run in 7 innings, but we still lost in extras because we couldn't muster more than a single run against them either.
But then, Fogg wasn't pitching that game. Last time we saw Fogg (September), we only mustered one run against him.
BUT...back in April, we scored 8 runs off him (7 earned) in just the first THREE innings! (Pads would eventually score a Brewers-esque 11 runs.)
BUT...the Padres that hit him the hardest that day? Mike Cameron (out), Rob Bowen (gone), Russell Braynan (gone), Jose Cruz (gone), and Marcus Giles (forgotten how to hit).
BUT...Adrian Gonzalez homered against him in the 1st inning, and even Chris Young had an RBI against him!
AND...Chris Young only allowed a single earned run to the Rox, AT Coors Field!
So, it CAN be done.

Our offense
It sure sucks that we have to play this tie-breaker, but with Jake on the mound, we should win this game. Period.
I know Khalil

Are you sure....
Also, I don't see it listed on their baseball schedule on the TBS website.

Ah, yes....
I have my 6 pack of San Diego Green Flash IPA chilling in the fridge. This has my "lucky beer" all season. Since I live in LA, I only got to see the Padres on TV when they played the Dodgers. So for those series, I always tried to pick up a sixer of Green Flash for the first game, and I think everytime I did that the Padres won the series. (The one time I didn't was one of the series the Padres lost.) So let's hope it comes through again against the Rox.
If not, at least I'll be sufficiently drunk.

BTW

But come on...
At least we dodged Morales and Jimenez. Those guys are tough as nails. And Francis might have been trouble, too.
Drawing Fogg is a break for the Padres. If we can't put up some big numbers early against Fogg, and behind Peavy, then like so many others have said: we don't deserve to advance.
I'm feeling more and more upbeat about tomorrow's game. (Maybe it's the Ruination.)
by Mr Meadows on Sep 30, 2007 7:24 PM PDT reply actions
definitely the ruination

if we lose tomorrow, then I think i have the
Murphy's Law (or we can call it the Padres' Postulate)
If things can go wrong, they will.

Peavy
Right now, I don't trust anyone in our bullpen EXCEPT Bell and Hoffman. Meredith, K-Cam, Brocail, Hampson, Germano...they CAN be good, but they've been through the ringer. I don't want to see ANY of them tomorrow. I want them to rest. I want the one-two punch of Peavy and Bell, and then Hoffy if necessary in a close 9th.
by Mr Meadows on Sep 30, 2007 7:36 PM PDT reply actions
Hoffman?
Hoffy
But you're right: if it's only a one-run lead, I'll be discoloring my pants in the 9th inning.

The Rockies aren't superhuman
I realize we've had a bad couple of games and that the Rockies are 'hot'....but why does anyone think we can't do this?
i love how we're all nervous as HELL but
by Padres fanatic92014 on Sep 30, 2007 7:52 PM PDT reply actions
nervous doesnt describe it
we need a lead early and have the rockies clawing back the entire game. i hate that we are away and they have last at bats. if this is a close game they have the power to win it, and we suck at scoring late runs.
so id say i'm a bit nervous....
The Rox

I mean
If Briles hadn't hit that 2-0ut, 9th inning home run in SF last week, then we'd be OUT as of today. Period.
As of now, we have some life...and I think a damn good chance of winning tomorrow. Buck up. And let's get this f*cker in the bag tomorrow.
