Padres 1, Cubs 0

I come back from Petco Park and I check to see what the final score was and I see this picture on the front of Padres.com and I was SHOCKED!

Nam Y. Huh/AP

MLB.com has the entire brawl up on the their website.

I'm recording the replay so I don't want to comment on it quite yet.

I'm just blown away... WOW!

Update [2007-6-17 1:29:15 by jbox]:

Here's my take on the fight. I just got finished watching it from both the 4SD broadcast and the WGN.

There was absolutely no reason for Chris Young to throw at Lee. He was pitching a stellar game and had zero outs. He had Lee on a 1-2 count. Neither Lee or Young had anything to do with Soriano, Peavy or Wells and the comments that were said in the press. There really isn't a good reason for Young to throw at Lee. I think it is fair to say that the ball just simply got away from him. He's a high fastball pitcher, it's happened before he's not a head hunter. Young is out there trying to win the game not trying to take revenge on Soriano, that doesn't even make the slightest bit of sense. Why would he risk getting kicked out of the game and/or putting Lee on first base when hits were at a minimum on both sides?

To be fair, I can understand Lee being upset. Even if it was an accident, when somebody throws a fastball in the vicinity of your head, you get a charge of adrenaline and you are likely to get angry. Lee was pissed and started yelling stuff at Young. It was hard to tell what Young said, it didn't look like he was trying to provoke Lee in anyway.

Lee reached out to grab Young with his left hand and then threw a punch with his right. In the 4SD feed they ran this part in slow motion, it looks like Lee made contact on Young on his left cheek. The commentators on 4SD noticed that there was a red splotch where the hit occurred. Young retaliated and threw punches back, it didn't look like any real contact was made.

Peavy runs out of the dugout in an end around type motion. At this point you can either say Lee ducked behind his manager to be held back or was trying to use him to get away from Peavy to get to Young.

Now if Peavy was going to be aggressive and/or malicious he would have just sucker punched Lee when he got behind him, but instead he just bear hugged him to hold his arms and wrap them up. In my opinion he was just trying to protect Young, since he didn't throw a punch or really do anything but hold Lee. Lee and Peavy were only knocked to the ground after the rest of the Cubs overtook them.

Now what really confuses me. What the hell was the reason for Zambrano taking off his belt? That was just f'n weird.

Props to Marcus Giles for getting in between Young and Lee so quickly and holding Young back.

Update [2007-6-17 2:2:38 by jbox]:

SignOnSanDiego has an article with quotes from those involved. I think this confirms that the pitch wasn't meant to hit Lee and Lee admits that he just lost his temper, which is somewhat understandable if you have a fast ball thrown at your head. Of course it would have been better to not throw a punch. Doesn't look like this had anything to do with the Soriano incident.

Lee
I know a lot of things can happen in the heat of battle, but to me, it really looked like Derrek Lee decided to run slightly behind Lou as opposed to going straight at Chris Young. And that's where Peavy comes in and tackles him.

Also, talk about a sucker punch, grabbing CY's jersey to try to pull a shot in? Weaksauce.

by Dex on Jun 16, 2007 2:52 PM PDT reply actions

Pretty good photo of Young, though
Considering what they usually have up on the frontpage, where he looks like a 97 year old man.

You're right, too: It's pretty clear in the replay that Lee does a big runaround to get BEHIND big ol' lou.

I love that Peavy runs out, sacks Lee for a big loss in the backfield. M. Giles sprints into the fray.  Branyan is in there messing with Zambrano.

Khalil must have been really confused at the behavior of these strange carbon-based life forms.

Lee
Not only is Derek Lee a big sissy, he cost his team since he will inevitably be suspended and he is the only one on the team who is hitting.  Good job, Derek now your team will be even further below .500.

My question is suspensions
Lee threw the first punch.  Young obviously swung back.  Peavy tackles Lee.

Lee obviously has to get something--I don't think Young and Peavy should.  Then again, I'm not exactly unbiased....

by goose1 on Jun 16, 2007 3:03 PM PDT reply actions

My question too
Granted there may be fines, I'm concerned about the suspensions. Do you think Pepe Negro may have to so do some call-ups to fill in the holes?

Young
Shouldnt get anything, Peavy might.

by soulSD on Jun 16, 2007 4:27 PM PDT up reply actions

That's about where I see it
Especially considering the smack Jake was talking ahead of time.  Regardless, the Padres will appeal anything that comes down on either CY or Jake.  And they should.

What I want to know is, I know the home plate ump was preoccupied talking with Bowen, but where the hell were the other umps when Lee was clearly headded toward 1st by way of the pitcher's mound?  That's got to be seriously embarrassing for the umps.  If they'd been paying any attention, this wouldn't have happened.

by Demoira on Jun 16, 2007 5:22 PM PDT up reply actions

jake...
was the 1st one to sprint on the field i think. Plus he didnt sprint to get in front of young, he sprinted at Lee which seemed agressive even though he was just bear hugging hum.

i disagree about the umps, this would happened regardelss of weather or not the other umps were closer. Umps should let it happenen anyways, theyre both grown men and fighting in sports is great. It adds a bit of backyardness to a game played by pampered stars.

God...
i seriously cant get over how big of a puss Dlee is. I hope baseball tonight shows him running behind his  90 year old coach for protection. Cy is a stud, i dont know where ivy league boy learned to throw a punch but if he would have connected, Lee is out cold.

 I HATE the cubs.

anyone notice
that CY makes the same face when throwing a punch as he does when throwing a pitch?

It was a great day to be a padres fan at wrigley... especially when it started to rain as trevor came out... we got to ride the cubs fans for leaving early.

by pjbno4 on Jun 16, 2007 4:30 PM PDT reply actions

I just watched the whole replay...
on Channel 4 (thank god they replay the games!) and I have to say, it was really really pretty shocking the way Lee went after CY. If he thought it was intentional, Zambrano should have come out and plunked one of our guys.

It makes me wonder what exactly CY said to Lee to set him off like that, because really, I don't think anybody expected Lee to START throwing punches.

  • Marcus Giles holding CY back was awesome. He wanted to try to separate his guy, protecting his pitcher. I give him credit for htat.
  • Peavy, what a fucking beast. He went in the middle of all the cubs players and went right after Lee - what a stud. He looked like he could have gotten injured too, as he was pulled down pretty hard.
Again, I'm pretty surprised that this whole thing happened. It was a 2-2 count, he was working him for a strikeout. IF you're going to claim Soriano's antics earlier were a part of this, Soriano would have been the guy CY went after.

I think the ball got away from CY and was a really gnarly hit, but the way he reacted was pretty crazy - and certainly out of line for a normally classy guy like Lee.

by Brad @ Gaslamp Ball on Jun 16, 2007 4:57 PM PDT reply actions

Agree with all that
And if you look at the replay at the very moment after the ball hit Lee, CY kind of throws his head to the side in disgust, like he's pissed off at himself for letting it get away from him.  If hitting him was premeditated, he did a fantastic acting job.

by Winfield's Ghost on Jun 16, 2007 5:21 PM PDT up reply actions

CY's not the type
to waste an out.  The game's tied 0-0, he's got the 2-2 count, and he -deliberately- hits the batter?  Don't think so.  At first I thought he looked like he was apologizing and then waiving Lee over to 1st, where he belonged.

by Demoira on Jun 16, 2007 5:25 PM PDT up reply actions

How rad is Peavy?
I just watched the replay and saw why Peavy got ejected. He runs through the cubs side of the fight to find Lee, and takes him down from behind. What a stud! thats when the Cubs pile on top of him.

I already loved Peavy and Young, but I have even more respect for them now.

But I think Jake gets 8 games for that, he'll have to miss 1 start at least. (hope I'm wrong)

by RBS on Jun 16, 2007 5:22 PM PDT reply actions

I hope Jake doesn't
He was just taking Lee out of the equation, something the Cubs players were failing to do.  I mean, Lee had to look for someone to hide behind, Jake wasn't taking any chances.  He was putting Lee down before he could cause any more trouble.

Jake rocks!

by Demoira on Jun 16, 2007 5:26 PM PDT up reply actions

Jake
Yes, I think he's my all-time favorite Padre as of right now.

He'll probably get suspended, mainly because he mouthed off prior to the game.  But it's garbage because if you look at the replay, he simply wraps up Lee because none of the other Cubs are keeping him off.  He doesn't try to take him to the ground.  They don't go down until the Cubs come in behind Peavy and, like, 5 Cubs can't pry him off Lee.

Yeah, he's DEFINITELY my all-time favorite Padre now.

by Winfield's Ghost on Jun 16, 2007 5:33 PM PDT up reply actions

after watching the video...
a bunch it looks like jake is just bear hugging him to ge him away from young. Peavy was actually trying to help i think. Then he got headlocked by thier coach and then trampled.

Whats awsome about this is that you can see the clubhouse commrodery come through in how everyone handled the fight. Our bench cleared at least ten seconds before the cubs did. And with the way that marcus was first one there to push him away. Just seemed like a unit out there.

by soulSD on Jun 16, 2007 6:08 PM PDT up reply actions

It's a tie for me
between Jake and Marcus. The sight of Giles first taking CY out of it, then turning around to take on all comers was just classic (again considering the size differential there). He and Jake would make a great tag team ;->

It so funny...how another team's fans
views a situation like this.  At bleedcubbieblue, they (obviously) call out CY as a bitch, instigator, and of course really lay into Peavy.

It's so wierd, because I really feel that if Peavy was on there team, they would be doing what we would be doing, applauding Peavy for going out and PROTECTING his friend, and his teammate, not to mention fellow starting pitcher.

And I'm sorry, if saying "Take your base..." or whatever it is, is enough to make you throw punches, than you have no self-control, unless of course you were making a statement, especially in relation to what peavy said yesterday.

And if THAT is the case, then you are doing exactly what Peavy is doing, defending his team's honor, pride, and all that stuff.

It's funny, we all bitch about the same thing essentially.

I AM SO GLAD PEAVY IS ON OUR SIDE.

by bktabinga on Jun 16, 2007 7:43 PM PDT reply actions

Peavy's week
First, he comes out and mows down TB with an absolutely dominating two hitter, picking the team up after four straight losses.

Then he comes out yesterday and calls out Soriano for that ridiculous HR act.

And today, he literally leads the charge out of the dugout and it takes half of the Cubs roster to take him down.

I freaking LOVE when the best player on our team acts like a leader in every way.

Suspended ==
Lee, Young and Peavy.

Why hit one of the classiest guys in MLB? Makes little, if any sense.

And Peavy is a little punk, he had nothing to do with what was happening. Reminds me of the same thing that chicken shit Eric Show did,  who plunking Andre Dawson in 1987.

Please delete my account, for this is the last time I will even visit here, and I'm sure none of the children that operate the page will give a damn.

After 25 years here, and even 4 years as a season ticket holder -- I truly hate this franchise, have done so since the antics of the 'fans' of 1984. But none of you are old enough to know, so I'm just talking to myself. I can only hope the Dodgers get their act together.

Hell, I'm moving to LA later this year anyway.

That makes sense
You totally seem like more of an LA guy anyway.

Goodbye.  And once again - thanks for all the "action."

by Winfield's Ghost on Jun 16, 2007 8:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Has it even occurred to you that
the ball slipped out of his hand? I mean, if you're really someone that follows the franchise (as you claim to be), you would remember from earlier this year when the same thing happened with CY in Atlanta. CY almost hit Jones in the head and then plunked Francouer. Both of those pitches were on counts in which Young was ahead and he clearly just missed with those pitches. As someone who throws high strikes, this sort of thing is going to happen once in a while.

And yeah, Derek Lee is showing a ton of class right now for saying, "Well, I didn't like what he had to say." After watching the replay numerous times, CY clearly said two things:

A) Take your base
B) I didn't throw at...

The latter comment is cut off because that's when Derek Lee decides he needs "to be a man" and swing at CY.

And of course everyone else is pitching at Peavy. God forbid you defend your own teammates. Watch the replay again, did Peavy "attack" Derek Lee? No, he merely held him since everyone else on the Cubs stood around with blank expressions. Lee only gets thrown to the ground because your batting coach, in a move demonstrative of the professionalism needed to be a member of the Cubs, headlocks him from behind and yanks him down by his face.

I understand defending your home team, but watch the replays a couple of times. CY did everything he could to diffuse the situation. He tried to indicate to Lee to take first and he tried to talk him down. It's not like CY said, "You want more of that bitch? C'mere and I'll coldcock ya!"

Jake Peavy's first and only goal was to get the upset parties away from one another. Since the Cubs were unable (or unwilling) to restrain Lee (notice how the first thing Marcus Giles does is remove CY from the situation?), Jake decided to hold Lee. Not punch him, not choke him, but hold him.

The Cubs (and their fans) show yet again why nobody respects them. Sure, it makes for great television because it's tragically funny. The ignorance of your fans has been well documented (ask Moises Alou how he feels about Cubs fans). I don't think that GB is going to be mourning your loss all that much.

You're going to LA huh? Seems like you'll fit right in up there.

ridiculous post
I too am upset, that you let a blog get you down, and that you formulate your opinion of a city, of its people by your opinion of a franchise which in the grander scheme of life, is LIKE EVERY OTHER.

First off, prove CY hit DLee on purpose.  I look at the replay over and over and do not see a motive.

Second off, DLee himself says in the interview, I DONT LIKE BEING THROWN AT MY HEAD.  He has ALREADY admitted that he is one remark away from conflict.  He wanted an apology, its a zero zero heated battle, sorry no apology.

Third, Peavy had no business on the field, as did EVERYOTHER person on the field.  Because Peavy went after the guy that SWUNG FIRST.  Man, you're right, arguing this is pointless.

Smooth jazz jackass has hated this franchise and supposedly its 'fans' since 19 freakin' 84 and THIS is what finally is the last straw?? One brawl caused by CY NOT throwing at DLee? (Does classiest = pussy??) Amazing. Yes, sounds like jackass will fit in much better in LA, until of course the cubs play the dodgers. Hope he enjoys the traffic, smog, sprawl and crime. Now we can only hope he takes that insipid radio station with him.

Observations:

Did anyone else notice after the benchs cleared, and our bullpen arrived in mass they got right into the fray? Brocail just wanted to hit somebody! Gonna show those rookies how to properly brawl.

After the brawl, in true Giles fashion, on TV and in the middle of the infield, Marcus drops his pants to the knees to tuck in his shirt, ass covered but showing. Talking to someone, doesn't even flinch or realize where he's at. Good thing Brian didn't notice or there would have been a naked fest on the field.

Where was Khalil? He must have been very confused at all the emotion. Hopefully someone tried to explain it later.

Everyone there is just assuming that it was intentional, which is ridiculous. The guy has a no-hitter going in the bottom of the 4th with no outs, on a 2-2 pitch, with a guy at the plate who had NOTHING to do with this morning's comments from Peavy/Wells, and Chris Young just randomly decides "I'm gonna nail this guy right here. GO PADRES, WOOO!!!"?

If Young really wanted to send a message, he would've thrown behind Soriano with the first pitch of the bottom of the first. Since that clearly did not happen, the pitch was unintentional.

chicago native. san diego for 20+ years, but never really seemed to find a niche here in gaslampball, and apparently the city of San Diego either (he says "dude" now so I guess he has "assimilated") ...this especially became evident during cubs vs pads series.

I can admit, that even being an ex-san diegan for many years, it is hard to post here and still feel in touch with the fans...but if you're coming in here thinking you're going to make us sympathize with the cubs fan point of view, not saying it could happen, but for crying out loud, this site is targeted for Padres fans.  If you want sympathy, fellowship, etc., go to Bleedcubbieblue.  Its not like cyberspace is bar around the corner.  Bleedcubbieblue might as well be home for all cubs fans including those that reside in San Diego and dislike posting at gaslampball.com.

If there is one thing that is made apparent, you're bitching about something that is not exclusive to gaslampball.com, the city of San Diego, or the Padres.  Go over to bleedcubbieblue, you'll find meaningless diaries, intuitive ones, posts about how the cubs suck, posts about how the cubs are turning the corner.

You'll see them talk about how Zambrano is a punk ass for his brawling yet revere him the next week for dominating the stros.

If you're going to head on to LA looking for love, well maybe you'll find it by introducing yourself as a padres basher, than you'll make friends.  But good luck when the dodgers face the Cubs and a brawl insues and you try to defend one of your own, better pack it up and head on to the next city that is not Chicago and find someone who will sympathize.

What'd I Miss????
Man, what a day to miss a Padre game.  Watched Dex graduate, coached my Pony baseball team to a win on our final game of the season, and went to two of Dex's parties.  I'm just now getting home, totally tired and sunburned to a crisp.  All I wanted to do was have a beer and crash, but everyone was talking about today's game so I had to watch the highlights and more video online.

The best part is Lee running for cover.  He acts like he is all bad ass, but as soon as Giles grabs Young, Lee looks for anyone to stand behind.  Are you kidding me?  Lee had two options that would have made him look more like a man.  Keep going after Young or just stand there.  But to run behind the first teammate you can find?  My cat wouldn't even do that.

Peavy should not have been thrown out.  Not that it mattered, but I thought Peavy was just controlling the situation; holding him down.  I agree with Jbox, it's not like he started jabbing him in the kidney.  I hope that is considered when a suspension ruling is handed down.

Finally this Zambrano guy has to be the biggest asshole in baseball.  He's that bully back in school that nobody likes.  He has to fight everyone, even his teammates to fill some void deep inside of him.  I think he really needs a hug.  A lot of hugs.  And if he doesn't get them and continues to act like this, I could see him really self destructing.  Not that he doesn't deserve it.

Jbox on Lee's Dodge
I actually (sadly) buy into jbox's speculation that maybe the D-Lee dodge for cover behind his teammates was actually a maneuver to avoid Peavy and keep coming.  It gives greater credence to why Peavy grabbed him ('cause if Lee's hiding behind people, why does he need to be held, but if he's dodging Jake to keep coming at Young, then he must be stopped).

But it was fun to keep showing people what a complete wuss Lee was by playing the video for them and saying, "Now here's the best part, keep your eye on Lee."

After further review...
I don't think CY was throwing at Lee.  BUT, he admits he was coming up and in, and if he's going to throw chin music he has to take responsibility.

There is an eternal battle in baseball over who owns the inside part of the plate.  Barry Bonds wears armor and dives across the plate (I hate that fucker).  Pitchers throw inside to protect.  What do hitters do?  They charge the mound when they get beaned.  It keeps everything on an uneasy balance.  Everybody (except Bonds) risks physical injury if they hog the inside.  It is dangerous neutral territory, like the line between North and South Korea.

Young can't act all innocent and confused.  He knows the unwritten rules.  If he does not want to be part of it, he should wear a dress and high heels on the mound.

And if Young wanted to avoid a fight he should have never said to Lee, "Take your base."  That is just slightly removed from "grab some pine, meat."  Ball players will take orders from umps, but they sure as fuck won't take them from opposing pitchers.

Young should have stuck with "I didn't throw at you."  Not wimpy, but firm.  Leave out any gestures or insults or orders and everything would have been fine.

Now you're going to lose your two best pitchers for at least a couple of starts each.  In a race as tight this one that is gonna hurt.  CY should have been less of a smartass and just stood his ground.

Did you miss the part where Lee threw a punch?
Because, pretty obviously, every other part of the encounter, as you point out, is just 'part of the game.'  Hitters crowd plates. Pitchers throw inside. Batters get hit. Stare downs, shit-talking.  All of that happens. You slide hard into second to break up a double play.  You knock a catcher on his ass.  Maybe you even talk some shit. That's how it works. Except for the part where Lee ACTUALLY THROWS A PUNCH.  As in, grabs a guy's jersey and takes a swing at him.  It's ridiculous to say Lee taking a swing is Young's fault.  Don't forget that it was Lee who was out of line.  This whole 'he looked at me wrong so i had to hit him' horseshit isn't part of the game of baseball.

How long have you been watching Baseball?
Fighting most certainly is part of the game.  How many times have you heard the phrase "bench-clearing brawl?"  To pretend fistfight don't happen in baseball in ridiculously naive.

(I'll tell you what is NOT part of the game:  Giving the finger to the home crowd.)

I don't think I laid all the blame on CY, but he surely shares the blame.  Aren't you familiar with the concept of "showing up" the other guy?  It has been an integral part of baseball since the late 1800s.  It usualy leads to fights and ejections.  Shouting "Take Your Base" to a guy you just hit is a STUPID way to escalate a conflict.  Young had to know that.  He is a dumbass if he didn't know it would lead to a fight, and you Padres fans are naive if you think fights never happen in baseball.

by DodgerBoy on Jun 17, 2007 11:07 AM PDT up reply actions

fisrt of all...
"you padres fans" is a stupid generalizing way to make a point. And honestly do you really think we are unaware fights dont happen in baseball? Quit talking down you sound like an ass.

As for sharing the blame, i completely disagree. Lee got hit by a pitch, it happens in baseball. LEE was the one who was talking shit. CY, saying "take your base" is the most unagressive response ive ever heard to induce a guy to throw a punch. LEE takes most of the blame in this and you will see baseball respond accordingly in the suspension time.

by soulSD on Jun 17, 2007 11:17 AM PDT up reply actions

Are you a complete idiot?
They're starting pitchers.  There's no way they get a long suspension than Lee, who threw the first punch.  And even if they each got an 8 day suspension, which I don't see happening, if they time it right, they each miss 1 start.  That's it.  "A couple starts?"  They don't count the suspension toward "days actually pitching."  IF they got suspended, which I highly doubt, they'll probably get 3 days, which they can happily serve between starts.

by Demoira on Jun 17, 2007 10:59 AM PDT up reply actions

Suspensions are coming later today
From a neutral point of view, Young escalated the conflict and then threw punches with Lee.  Peavy tackled Lee in the scrum.  It does not matter how it started -- you padres fans can bring all the excuses you want -- but they chose to fight, especially Peavy.  That is against the rules.

Lee, Young, and Peavy should get suspended.  So, to Young and Peavy... Grab some pine, Meat!

by DodgerBoy on Jun 17, 2007 11:23 AM PDT up reply actions

chose to fight?
okay, maybe peavy might've overreacted a bit, but did you really expect young to just stand there? i think he did what EVERY guy would've done in that situation... unless that guy were you...
But I don't know what a dead bird smells like...

"Escalated"
Wow.  I don't think  I'd want to have an argument with you.  Any statement you don't like woiuld be your excuse for acting like a jackass and throwing a punch.  Lee went out toward the mound to cause trouble.  Chris told him to go where he was supposed to be.  I'm sorry if Lee was in a bad mood and decided to throw a punch.  The second he did that, Chris had every right to swing, expecially since Lee was holding onto his shirt.  What, was he supposed to stand there, held by Lee, and wait for Lee to swing again?  I don't think so.  And look at the tape again - Jake is a scrapper, I'll give him that, but he "tackled" 6'5 Derrek Lee?  I don't think so.  That bear hug would have been comical at any other time.  They ended up on the ground thanks to the Cubs players, not some overpowering move by Jake.

by Demoira on Jun 17, 2007 11:34 AM PDT up reply actions

I don't get what your point is
You don't know what Young said to Lee. If all he said was, "take your base" then I don't get how that's escalating anything. Derrek Lee was obviously chirping about getting hit and Chris Young wasn't backing down from the fact that he's allowed to pitch up and in.

Also, what're you doing here? Go away.

by Dex on Jun 17, 2007 11:36 AM PDT up reply actions

How are you neutral again?
I mean, as a Dodger fan, our division rival in a dead heat, you advocate baseball suspending our 2 best pitchers--2 of the best in the league, incidentally--for 'several' starts a piece. Is it possible that Peavy and Young out would really help--wait, wait, don't tell me!--the Dodgers?  This 'neutral' point of view is horseshit.

No one is saying fighting doesn't happen--nice try, though.  But when it does, they hand out suspensions--meaning that from MLB's point of view (and most fans, and probably most players) a fistfight isn't actually 'part of the game.'  It's like saying beach balls are part of the game.  Though, as a dodger fan, you might actually believe that...

very diplomatic of you
it's what i come to gaslamp for.

as an unbiased observer, i believe the padres are the awesomest team in the galaxy and that nomar garciaparra and wilson betemit should be suspended indefinitely for having complicated names. of course, i say this just as a neutral observer.

scratch that...
leave nomar. he can't field his position. at all.

point, counterpoint...
YOU: "From a neutral point of view"
-bullshit

YOU: "Young escalated the conflict and then threw punches with Lee"
-You are correct in this one, Young should have just stood there and taken one to the face. I mean, if some dude threw a punch at you because you were hitting on his man youre telling me you wouldnt defend yourself?

YOU: "Peavy tackeled Lee..."
-watch the video, peavy was the one that got tackeled and was the only one who had injuries in the whole ordeal.

YOU: "It does not matter how it started."
-Im pretty sure MLB thinks otherwise.

YOU:"Grab some pine, Meat!"
- You do realize that pitchers are used to sitting the bench? They only pitch 1/5 days.

Go sit on the broom we gave you and shut up.

I too
was going to take apart your argument, but pretty much everyone else did it for me.

I think the best part of your spiel though was "as a neutral observer."

Forgetting the fact that your screen name is Dodger Boy, why don't we scroll upward a little bit in this post. And oh, what have we here? It looks like you were talking shit all day yesterday.

Nice try buddy, but you're not the President with a complicit media that can distort your lies to whatever truth you like. That's the bitch about the intertubes. We can like, look up stuff, and see, that like, you're totally full of shit.

*Correction
It was in the open thread from yesterday's game where you made the inflammatory statements. Unlike you, I can actually admit I might be wrong. Regardless, you still came on our board and acted a little less than "neutral".

by Phantom on Jun 17, 2007 5:22 PM PDT up reply actions

Going to lose them for two starts each at least?
Are you saying they're each going to be suspended for 12ish games, at least?  Because that's what it takes to miss two starts.  Even with 10 games, you're really only missing one start, since each pitcher will start the last game before he takes the suspension and the first one after he's back.  There's no way both of them are suspended for that long.

WGN
is doing their pre-game show right now and are showing the Chicago interviews.
When Zambrano was interviewed he said that he was just trying to separate them which made the entire press corp laugh which made him laugh. Basically they knew he was full of shit. He was out there with the intenet to start more trouble.
Fuck Zambrano.

I thought ABY was talking about Brian, I saw Marcus do that.

Speaking of Brian, does anybody know why Brian was fined?  I heard it might be because no person on the DL is allowed to take the field.  Is that true?

Marcus...
I absolutely love Marcus Giles. During the melee on Saturday I was having a total shit-fit in fornt of the TV because of what was going on...I was livid. Then all of the sudden I just started laughing. My wife is like what is wrong with you? Why are you laughing now? I said: "Look at Marcus! He just dropped trou right out in the middle of Wrigley. Look at him. I love that little f*cker."

that's what had me all confused!
I busted a gut over Marcus doing that, too.  My dad does that.  Middle of the airport, forgets where he is, retucks in shirt.  Guy thing, I guess.
