Yesterday the Padres fell to Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers to open up the 2017 season. Today there will be another Clayton on the mound, this time for San Diego, as they try to even up the series and Notch their first win of the season.
Veteran lefty Clayton Richard will try to do what his teammate Jhoulys Chacin could not do yesterday and shut down the Dodgers offense. Richard has had some relative success against Los Angeles in the past. In 19 career appearances (17 starts) against the Dodgers he has a respectable 6-4 record and 3.73 ERA with a 1.388 WHIP.
Going opposite Richard will be Kenta Maeda, who hopes to repeat the success of his rookie 2016 season. He went 16-11 last year with a 3.48 ERA through 32 starts. Four of those starts were against the Padres. He kept them to eight runs on 14 hits and two walks while collecting 27 strikeouts through a total of 22 innings.
