After yesterday's offensive explosion, today's game was more subdued. Brandon Morrow and Odrisamer Despaigne combined to allow just two runs in five and two thirds innings. Morrow allowed one run on four hits and a walk in his three innings of work, but his out pitches were in good form as he racked up four strikeouts. Despaigne went 2.2 innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits and a walk. He only picked up a pair of Ks, preferring to do his damage by inducing five ground outs.
Meanwhile, the bats, while not as loud as they were yesterday, certainly weren't quiet. Will Venable and Wil Myers both went 2 for 3, carrying the weight for the Wil(l)s as Will Middlebrooks didn't play and Wil Nieves went 0 for 3. And speaking of potential replacements for Tim Federowicz, fan favorite Cody Decker came in during the eighth inning to hit a two-run bomb. And that guy knows bombs. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late.
The Padres will take on the Dodgers tomorrow, and you won't want to miss this one. Matt Vasgersian and Mark Grant are reuniting to call the game, which you can catch on MLB Network or Fox Sports San Diego at 6:00 PM. Oh, you can also catch the debut of the newest Padre.
