06/24 Padres Preview: Game 78 @ Giants

Jim McIsaac

Our Padres certainly got off on the right foot in San Francisco, and hopefully they can lock up a series tonight against the NL West leaders.

Jesse Hahn gets another start in the bigs to build on an already impressive beginning to his major league career. The struggles he experienced in his debut at the beginning of June have seemed to evaporate as the righty dominated his last two matchups, giving up a single run over 13 innings of work. He also kept opponents batting just .133 while collecting 14 strikeouts in that short stretch.

But still, despite last night's outcome, the offense will have their work cut out for them against the Giants tonight. SF will send Tim Hudson to the mound in game 2, and they haven't lost one of his starts at home all season. San Diego looks to win their first series at AT&T Park since October of 2010, taking advantage of the Giants' recent struggles. San Francisco has dropped 10 of their last 13 games, including last night's shutout, while their rotation has combined for a 5.58 ERA in that span.

But the Giants are 7-0 in Hudson's home starts in 2014. The right-hander is 5-0 with a 2.16 ERA in those starts. However, Hudson is coming off his worst start of the year. He gave up seven runs on 12 hits and only lasted 4 2/3 innings last Wednesday. Tonight he's tasked with trying to help the Giants avoid a series loss to kick off their ten-game homestand. Aside from excelling at home this season, he's been very successful career-wise against our Friars. In 14 starts all-time against San Diego, Hudson is 7-2 with a 2.71 ERA. He's already faced them once this year, keeping them to two runs in 8 2/3 innings of work en route to a victory on April 30th.

See if our Padres can put an end to Hudson's undefeated streak at home and hand the Giants another losing series to add to their recent slump. Game time is set for 7:15 PDT tonight.
