It's obviously a sad day for us all, but there is still baseball to be played and watched and game threaded. Personally I can't think of a better way to continue living in the spirit of Tony Gwynn than to continue supporting the Padres players and cheering them on. So here I'll be on a Monday night watching our 29-40 team try to kick off a series in Seattle with a win.
Notes:
- Padres have a winning percentage of 45% on June 16th. They're 18-22 all-time on this date.
- CY will not only be facing the Padres for the first time since he left the team, but he will be facing the Padres for the first time ever in his career. After this start, he will have faced every team in the majors at least once.
- The Mariners will hold a moment of silence for Tony Gwynn at 6:55 PDT tonight, prior to the game at SafeCo Field. They'll also have the number 19 drawn in the dirt in the 5.5 hole between SS and 3B (as reported by Bob Scanlan). Similar tributes have been and will be held throughout baseball today/tonight.
It's interleague play in Seattle, so that means a DH. Bud Black will use the obvious choice in Quentin.
GO FRIARS!! KEEP THE FAITH!! BRING BACK THE BROWN!!
