Our Padres got roughed up in Arizona on Friday and gave the series away to the Diamondbacks. After arriving in Chicago early yesterday morning and enjoying an off day in the city, they continue their road trip this afternoon when they begin a three-game set against the White Sox.
Ian Kennedy hopes to build off a great outing against the other Chicago team. He kept the Cubs to one run on two hits while striking out six in six innings on Sunday afternoon. Kennedy has pitched much better than his 3-6 record shows. He has the third lowest run support average (2.92) among qualified starters this season.
It isn't news that the Padres offense has struggled this year, but they've been particularly woeful on the road. They only have one road series win to counter their seven series losses (and one split) away from Petco Park.
They'll be facing a pitcher whose had a couple of bad outings this year but for the most part has been a solid member of the White Six rotation. John Danks makes the start in the series opener after having pitched an eight-inning shutout performance his last time out. He gave up only three hits in that start on Saturday, leading the White Sox to a victory over the Yankees.
Chicago comes into this series (after an off day of their own) fresh off a series sweep against the visiting Indians.
These two teams will kick things off at 5:10 PDT.
