Tyson Ross gets the start today for the #Padres. Remember this game a year ago here against #Dbacks Patrick Corbin? http://t.co/PmYFw6YTtB

Tyson Ross has pitched well against the Diamondbacks in the past, and today he looks to continue that trend as our Padres open up a three-game set at Chase Field. Ross is 1-1 with a 1.86 ERA in four career starts against Arizona. He faced them most recently earlier this month in a series finale at Petco Park, allowing three runs (only one earned) in seven innings to help lead San Diego to victory and avoid a sweep by the Dbacks. He's also limited opponents to one earned run in seven innings in each of his four outings since then, going 21 with a 1.29 ERA in that stretch. He's given up just three hits in each of his last two starts while striking out eight in each of his last three.
His opponent, Brandon McCarthy, also found success in that series at Petco Park a few weeks ago. He tossed seven scoreless frames on May 3rd, and though San Diego rallied for three runs after he exited the game, it wasn't enough to overcome the Dbacks and McCarthy was credited with the win. That has been the only win of the season so far because of a lack of run support from his offense. In each of his last two starts, he's combined for 14 innings of two-run ball, but only received one total run of support. McCarthy is 3-1 in his four career outings against the Friars, posting a 1.67 ERA.
First pitch at Chase Field is set for 5:10 PDT.
