05/21 Padres Preview: Game 47 vs. Twins

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Our Padres led the Twins for a brief time last night, but couldn't hold on and dropped the first game of a two-game set. Tonight they'll try to split the series as Tyson Ross takes the mound against the Twins.

Last night a couple of wild pitches were the difference in an otherwise close game. Hopefully Tyson Ross can help the Friars turn things around and salvage the second game of the series. The righty is 5-3 with a 2.81 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 57 2/3 innings this season. He's pitched especially well at home, going 3-1 with a 1.59 ERA in his last five at Petco Park while going at least seven innings in each of his last four. He's gone 0-2 all-time against Minnesota, however, posting a 9.53 ERA in four career starts.

Phil Hughes will take the mound for the Twins as they try to sweep the short series in San Diego. He is 4-1 with a 3.61 ERA this season, and he has a great track record against the Padres. Tonight he will try to lead his team to an eighth straight victory over SD.

The game will begin an hour earlier than usual tonight, at 6:10 PDT, so make sure to tune in and see if our Friars can pull off the split.
