The Padres have now racked up four wins in a row, and Ian Kennedy is looking to make that five. He'll need some help from the lineup for that to happen, and they weren't very good to him in his last start. Despite striking out 12 over 7 innings and hitting his first career home run, the veteran starter still couldn't take home a win. Position players hit an abysmal 6 for 35 against the Marlins on Thursday night.
The good news is that the offense has come alive since then, scoring 26 runs over the four game winning streak. They've been buoyed by NL Player of the Week Seth Smith and have just been rejoined by Carlos Quentin and Chase Headley, who hit the game-winning home run last night. Hopefully those bats stay hot, as they'll have to take advantage of every opportunity they can get against Reds' starter Johnny Cueto. The ace is rocking the lowest ERA in the majors, an inhuman (and unsustainable) 1.43.
First pitch is at 4:10 PM.
