Hello, old friend.
I have not been around as much lately as I would like...I have been busy with school, watching basketball, and using twitter to get all my Padres news. This morning, before my first class, I was frantically trying to catch up with all the articles I had missed on GLB.
As I skimmed through I came across the article that explains that the Padres are trying to get the All Star Game for their 50th birthday. Of course, I think that would be awesome, but there are always several travesties that go along with All Star Games of any sport.
The tyranny I always feel the most strongly about though is home team representation; or lack there of. I have three examples of what I mean, two in baseball and one in basketball. In both baseball cases it was actually about the Home Run Derby rather than the actual All Star Game. When the All Star Game was in AZ Justin Upton was the Diamondbacks representative at the All Star Game and, despite being third in home runs in the NL at the time he was not chosen to play in the Home Run Derby. A year later the All Star Game was played in KC and the same thing happened with Billy Butler. For an actual example of an All Star Game rather than All Star break festivities
I have a better example with this years NBA All Star Game (in which there is no rule which states each team must be represented), which is being played in New Orleans. Now New Orleans just changed from the Hornets to the Pelicans, as well as went out to get a lot of talent to try and boost their popularity; similar to what the Marlins did a few years ago. Despite having a poor year so far, with many of their stars not performing as well as they had hoped, they do have a player named Anthony Davis who many experts believe to be a top 10 player in the NBA despite this only being his second year in the league. Of course, he ended up being an All Star snub until they replaced Kobe Bryant, who was voted to be a started despite not even playing in 20 games this year. IT MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL!!!!
Anyway, I am sorry to be so round about, but what I would like to ask everyone is: Who do you think will be in the 2019 All Star Game as the Padres representative(s)? I am going to say Gyorko and Hedges will be playing in their 2nd All Star Game together and Kyle Blanks and Alexi Amarista will be in their only All Star Games of their careers at ages 32 and 29. Go ahead and give your predictions in the comments if you are still reading this crazy thing!
