All Star Everth Cabrera led off the game with an infield single. 2 ground outs moved him to 3rd base in time for Yonder Alonso to step to the plate. The Singles Machine produced one to score Everth and give the Padres THE LEAD.
After giving up a single and stole base to Norichika Aoki, pitcher Tyson Ross regained control and got the next 3 Brewers out.
Will Venable connected with a single, then Mark Kotsay got himself a single to move Willven to 3rd base. Yeah, Kotsay got a single. Maybe he should start more often if that’s what it will bring. The next 3 Padres still in shock at the single were retired 1-2-3.
Ross walked Carlos Gomez, then picked him off. Gomez tried to gallop away from Yonder but was unsuccessful. Ross then brought the heat and struck out the last 2 batters.
Chase Headley doubled but could not get around to score in the inning.
Jeff Bianchi singled and stole second to start the bottom of the inning. Donovan Hand got hit by a pitch in, well, the hand. Aoki grounded into a fielder’s choice to put runners at 1st and 3rd. A throwing error on a pick off attempt by Ross gets the tying run in.
Tie Game 1-1
4th InningWill Venable is good at baseball. How good? Good enough to hit the second deck with a home run to give THE LEAD back to the Padres.
Yonder Alonso stole second base. That’s all I have to say about that.
Tyson Ross strikes out 2 batters in the inning.
Mark Kotsay singled again. It is his first multi hit game in 2 months. Nick Hundley looking to add another hit does just that with a blast to left field that clears the fence for a 2 run homer.
Chase Headley singles for his 2nd hit of the game. Venable’s 3rd hit of the game put Headley on 3rd base. Professional hitter Mark Kotsay connected with this 3rd hit of the night to score another run for the Padres. It is his first 3 hit game since last June. 13 months between 3 hit games. Quite the drought there.
Nick Hundley then had to keep up with the Kots and got his 3rd hit of the night with an RBI single. That was his 3rd RBI of the night. Nothing weirder than your 6-7-8 hitters each having 3 hits. That’s baseball.
Nick Vincent enters the game in relief of Tyson Ross. Tyson Ross had 6 strong innings giving up only 2 hits and 1 ER. He walked 2 batters and struck out 6 Brewers on 82 pitches. Just to make his presence known, Vincent went out and struck out 2 batters in the inning.
Colt Hynes entered the game for the Padres and gave up his first ER on the first career home run for Khris Davis.
Yonder Alonso got his 2nd hit of the game. That single makes it 5 Padres with 2+ hits tonight. Even crazier? Yonder Alonso stole his 2nd base tonight. I guess that's why he has abandoned the double. The single, then stolen base approach he is using now is far more exciting.
Luke Gregerson took over pitching duties to close out the game. He got the first two Brewers to fly out and the last guy to ground out to him.
PADRES WIN 6-2
What a bunch of hits today for the Padres. They put up 15 hits. That's as professional as you can get. Jedd's D was off the charts too. Tomorrow, the Padres will send Sean O’ Sullivan to the mound to face Kyle Lohse in the 3rd game of this 4 game series. With a win tomorrow, it would be the first series win and 3 game win streak since June 14-16. Go, Padres!
