1st Inning
Not a good 1st inning. Dexter Fowler singled. Then, Dirk Nowitski hits a 2 run homer off Clayton Richard. 1st innings are not his forte.
Rockies 2-0
3rd Inning
Clayton's 3rd inning was not too hot either. Fowler doubled, reached third after an out, then Carlos Gonzalez grounded out to score him. After a walk, Nolan Arenado hit a triple to push the lead to 4.
Rockies 4-0
4th and 5th Inning
Juan Nicasio continued his bid for a perfect game. Spoilers: He didn't get one. I'll let you know when he lost it.
6th Inning
He lost it. Hugely. Nick Hundley homered to break up the perfect no hitter shutout. But, that was just the beginning. Everybody was getting hits. Clayton Richard had a single. Everth Cabrera had a single to push his hit streak to 10 games. Alexi Amarista had an RBI single. EVERYBODY GETS A SINGLE. The Padres then loaded the bases, but couldn't squeeze out another run. But, they did squeeze Nicasio out of the game following the inning. According to the FSSD broadcast, Nicasio was telling his teammates that sunglasses reflecting the sun were distracting him. Blame it on the lens.
Rockies 4-2
After the 6th inning, Clayton's day comes to an end. 6 innings with 4 ER on 8 hits. He had 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.
7th Inning
The game got good. So good. Cameron Maybin hits his first home run of the season. Now it's a 1 run game. Nick Hundley got a single, then up came the pinch hitter. Bud Black called upon the man, the myth, the legend. Mark Kotsay stepped up to the plate and touched 3 bases before stepping to it again. A home run to straightaway center puts the Padres on top after being down by 4 runs. THE LEAD!
PADRES 5-4
8th Inning
The Padres kept it coming. Kyle Blanks singled to left. Will Venable then stepped it up a bit with a RBI triple to center to add on to the lead. Chris Denorfia didn't think that was enough, so he got an RBI single to push the lead to 3 runs.
PADRES 7-4
9th Inning
Luke Gregerson enters the game to close the door on the Rockies. He didn't close it fast enough. After a Herrera single and fielder's indifference, Tyler Colvin singled to left to score Herrera. Dexter Fowler singled, then stole second. Runners on 2nd and 3rd, Carlos Gonzalez doubles to tie the game. Padres comeback win stricken from the record. Hopefully just until they come back and win in extras.
Tie Game 7-7
10th Inning
Rockies got a walk off win from a Fowler single that scored LeMahieu.
Rockies 8-7
Not a series win. Not a happy flight. Just setting us up for an incredible homestand starting tomorrow against the Braves.
Win tomorrow, Padres!
