The Padres stayed in state to make their 3rd selection of the draft with Junipero Serra HS CF Jordan Paroubeck. Here's what MLB.com has to say about the switch hitter:
Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, Calif., has a rich baseball tradition and is Barry Bonds' alma mater. Outfielder Jordan Paroubeck hopes to be the next star to come out of Serra and has the perfect mentor to guide him. Bonds, who played baseball and basketball at Serra with Paroubeck's father, Tom, has been giving Paroubeck private hitting lessons for six years. Those lessons have paid off this season. Paroubeck impressed scouts this spring with a loose, easy swing from both sides of the plate. He is a natural right-hander, but has been switch hitting since he was 9. Paroubeck generates good power already and should add more as he physically matures. He covers ground well in the outfield and has a strong, accurate arm. Paroubeck profiles as a center fielder, but if he outgrows the position he should hit enough for right field. He is committed to Fresno State.
Seems to me like another solid pick with good upside. You always like taking players who at least start off playing middle of the field positions and can always move to other ones as they develop. Especially if they develop power with increased size. Quality first day for the Padres as they go all offense to improve a system that had become pitching heavy.
