1st Inning
Everth Cabrera did not even let a strike cross the plate. A lead off double to start off the game is a good way to begin the 1st inning. Not getting him home to score a run is a bad way to end the 1st inning.
Andrew Cashner got through the 1st inning using only 8 pitches including 3 straight strikes to Carlos Gonzalez.
2nd Inning
Cameron Maybin returned to the San Diego Padres line-up for the first time since April 15th. So, what better way to welcome himself back to the team than to draw a walk and steal his first base of the season.
4th Inning
The Run Gates opened. Chase Headley singled. Carlos Quentin walked. Jedd Gyorko got an RBI double that scored Chase. Mark Kotsay grounded out and scored Carlos. Cameron Maybin hit it to 3rd base, but the fielder thought he could get Jedd at the plate. He didn't. After Cameron stole his 2nd base of the night, the catcher threw it into the outfield, sending him to 3rd. Nick Hundley grounded out and scored Maybin. Andrew Cashner got a single and then got tagged out at 2nd as he was trying to use his camouflage undershirt to sneak himself onto another base.
PADRES 4-0
The Rockies rookie Nolan Arenado got a double and scored on Michael Cuddyer's double. Au revoir, shutout.
PADRES 4-1
5th Inning
D.J. LeMahieu got a double. Upon stealing 3rd base, Nick Hundley threw a Hail Mary pass over Chase's head and the run scored.
PADRES 4-2
6th Inning
Carlos Quentin and Jedd Gyorko each got a single. A bloop single with 1 out by Cameron Maybin scored Quentin from 2nd base. Yeah. Carlos had the wheels a-turnin' and a-burnin'. Surprised he was able to stop his legs and not keep going Forrest Gump style. Jhoulys Chacin was taken out of the game right after this. Guess the manager could see that the jet stream created by Carlos Quentin obviously stunned Chacin and his services would not be good anymore.
PADRES 5-2
Jordan Pacheco and Wilin Rosario both doubled leading to a run for the Rockies.
PADRES 5-3
7th Inning
Andrew Cashner struck out 1 batter in his last inning on the mound tonight. 7 innings of work giving up 7 hits and 3 ER. Over his 107 pitches, he gave up 2 walks and recorded 4 strikeouts.
8th Inning
Dale Thayer came in to replace Andrew Cashner and stripped him of the win with one bad pitch. After a Jordan Pacheco single, Wilin Rosario hit a home run to left field to tie the game at 5.
5-5 Tie
9th Inning
The Rockies almost won, but didn't.
11th Inning
The Padres almost won, but didn't. An error in center field lets Cameron Maybin run all the way to 3rd base with no outs. But, a ground out to the pitcher by Alexi Amarista gets Maybin tagged out at home.
The Rockies almost won again, but didn't. With a runner on 2nd and 2 outs, a deeeeep fly to center with the outfield playing close forces Maybin to run all the way to the wall to catch the ball. Barely.
12th Inning
Chase Headley single, Kyle Blanks double, and Jedd Gyorko walk loads the bases. Then, the weird play. Remember all those games these past few days where 1st base was the worst base. Well, things kinda changed. Yasmani Grandal grounded to 3rd base. Arenado never touched 3rd base before throwing to first and Kyle Blanks was called out. However, when the ball reached 1st base, Grandal, who looked to be out was called safe. Headley scores the tie breaking run.
Brad Boxberger is called in to save the game and save the game he does. Michael Cuddyer ended the game by grounding out and falling over 1st base after being called out. Padres win.
PADRES 6-5
Took a little extra time, but as long as it's a Padres win, I'm fine.
Win again tomorrow, Padres!
