Last night's loss put the Padres back a game under .500 and in third place in the NL West. Today they'll try to close out June on a strong note as Andrew Cashner takes the mound opposite Miami's Nathan Eovaldi.
Though he's only 1-0 in June up to this point, each of Cashner's four starts this month have been quality and he's coming off one of his best outings of the season. He threw 91 pitches through eight innings while allowing just one run on five hits and a walk against the Dodgers. Another of Cashner's best starts of the season came against the Marlins on May 6th. He gave up no runs and only four hits through 7 1/3 innings while striking out four.
Eovaldi will be making his third start since returning from the DL. In each of his two starts prior to today, he lasted six innings while surrendering up two runs. His only previous outing against the Padres was his Marlins debut last July. He held them to one run in 5 1/2 innings to earn the win.
