Giants end Padres winning streak at seven games

Ezra Shaw

1st inning:
Logan Forsythe singled to start the game and moved to second on his first steal of the season after last night's hero Will Venable struck out. Forsythe was stranded after Chase Headley struck out and Kyle Blanks grounded out.

Andrew Cashner got off to a sketchy start, walking San Francisco leadoff man Gregor Blanco, who then picked up a steal of his own, moved to third on a Marco Scutaro groundout, and scored on a single by Buster Posey. Cashner then got down to business, striking out derp-face Hunter Pence and Brandon Belt to end the inning .

Padres 0, Giants 1

2nd inning:
Mark Kotsay, Chris Denorfia, and Alexi Amarista went down in order in the top of the inning. In the bottom of the inning, Brandon Crawford led off with a single and was promptly gunned down by Nick Hundley while trying to steal second. Cashner then struck out Joaquin Arias and induced a ground out by Juan Perez to hold the deficit to one.

Padres 0, Giants 1

3rd inning:
Another 1-2-3 top half, this one featuring strikeouts by Cashner and Forsythe. Blanco got back on base in the bottom of the inning with a double and Scutaro followed up with a "single" to Alexi. Both runners advanced on a Posey groundout but Cashner stranded them in scoring position.

Padres 0, Giants 1

4th inning:
Our guys went down 1-2-3 yet again. Venable struck out yet again. In the Giants' half, Brandon Belt led off with a single and third baseman Nick Noonan- who replaced Brandon Crawford in the lineup in the top of the inning with Joaquin Arias shifting to short- added another before Arias grounded into a double play that scored Belt. Cashner got another ground ball to end the inning.

Padres 0, Giants 2

5th inning:
Yep. Again. The Giants got one baserunner in their half on a blown call but it was for naught.

Padres 0, Giants 2

6th inning:
No 1-2-3 this time! Nick Hundley led off the inning with a homer to end Matt Cain's string of 15 straight outs. Logan Forsythe thought that looked like fun so he hit one of his own to tie it up. Will Venable then doubled his way on but was stranded after Chase struck out again and Kyle Blanks flew out to left.

Brandon Belt singled in the bottom of the inning but Hundley recorded his second caught stealing of the night to ensure a three up, three down frame of sorts.

Padres 2, Giants 2

7th inning:
Mark Kotsay doubled to start the seventh but got thrown out trying to score on a Denorfia single with no outs for some reason. Joaquin Arias singled to begin the bottom half, moved to second on a bunt, and scored on a Blanco single. That would be the last batter Cashner faced as he was relieved by Tim Stauffer. Pedro Ciriaco entered the game at shortstop as part of the double switch.

Padres 2, Giants 3

8th inning:
Logan Forsythe battled for a walk after Ciriaco grounded out and then pinch hitter Jesus Guzman was summoned to replace Venable. Guzman didn't do anything special, unless you consider hitting a two run homer to give the Padres the lead something special. Oh, wait, that is pretty special. Chase Headley followed up with a double and Kyle Blanks was intentionally walked before Mark Kotsay grounded into a fielder's choice that put runners on the corners. Denorfia grounded into a force to end the threat but it was hard to get upset about it with the lead in hand.

Bud Black shuffled around his defense as he is wont to do, putting Guzman at first base, moving Blanks from first to left, and Denorfia from left to center, with Dale Thayer coming in to pitch. Thayer promptly allowed a single to Buster Posey, who was then replaced by pinch runner Andres Torres. After Hunter Pence struck out, Torres came around to tie the game on a double by Belt. Nick Noonan was intentionally walked to set up a force, and Arias lined out to center for the second out before Juan Perez singled in Belt. Nick Vincent was summoned and got the third out but the damage was done.

Padres 4, Giants 5

9th inning:
Pedro Ciriaco singled with two outs but was stranded to end the game. The streak ends at seven.

Final score: Padres 4, Giants 5
