Kyle Blanks homers, Padres lose 5-2

USA TODAY Sports

Padres pitcher Eric Stults started the game. In the first Chase Headley allowed a runner on base with a fielding error. With a stolen base and single the Texas Rangers took an early 1-0 lead.

All was quiet with batters retiring in order until the 3rd inning. That's when Ranger Brandon Allen homered to right field scoring his little buddy Craig Gentry. Suddenly it was 3-0 Rangers.

Anthony Bass took over pitching duties in the 4th inning and care of business. In the 5th however he gave up a two run homer to Jim Adduci. It was 5-0 Rangers and the Padres vital signs were flat lining.

That is until the bottom of the 6th when Chase Headley drew a walk and was replaced by Gregorio Petit. After failed attempts to bring Petit home by Yasmani Grandal and Jedd Gyorko, Kyle Blanks came to the plate. The monster mashed the ball to left field. Bob Scanlan said it was one of the farthest hit balls he'd seen in Spring. Jerry Coleman called the ogre a "game changer".

Regardless of the display of power the Padres still lost. The game ended with about a billion substitutions.

It was nice to hear Coleman and Scanlan being broadcast clearly on Mighty 1090 for once.
