We've already discussed the face of the franchise. Well, how about the heel of the franchise? "Heel" is a professional wrestling term to describe a bad guy (while "face" is used in professional wrestling to describe a good guy).
So, who is your most hated player to ever wear the Padres uniform? I think this is best left open to all players throughout history (despite that MLB Network's "Face of the Franchise" seems to be limited to current players).
I think good heel "heat" comes not from being a poor athlete, but from being a poor human being. There have been plenty of players who were just terrible at playing the game, but that's usually not enough to leave me with a lasting hatred.
A few nominations:
Kevin Brown - did not re-sign with the Padres after 1998. Brown claimed he wanted to play closer to home (Georgia). Instead of signing with an East Coast team, signed with the Doggers for a whole lot of money.
Orlando Hudson - told fans to cut his grass.
Ruben Rivera - Although the incident didn't happen while on the Padres, it's still pretty embarrassing. Rivera stole Derek Jeter's bat and sold it to a collector for $2,500.
Jack Clark - was a dick to Tony Gwynn
Brian Giles - beat up on his girlfriend
