Erlin came into the 2013 season as one of the Padres' top prospects. On April 24th he was called up from Triple-A Tucson and less than a week later, on April 30th, he made his major league debut. The left-hander entered the game in the 9th inning and got his first major league out by getting Darwin Barney to fly out to right field.
The next night, Erlin got Julio Borbon swinging for his first ML strikeout.
He was sent back down to Tucson a day later, but was recalled to make a spot start for Clayton Richard on June 1st. In his starting debut, Erlin tossed 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball against the Blue Jays, striking out four en route to his first career win. He was optioned back to the Triple-A club the next day.
His first career hit came on September 3rd off Madison Bumgarner. He lined a ball to shallow center in front of Angel Pagan and over the head of Tony Abreu to drive in a run and extend the Padres' lead over the Giants.
His finest pitching performance was his second to last start of the season and it came against the NL West Champion Dodgers. On September 20th, Erlin pitched 7 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing only four hits and a walk while striking out seven batters.
Here's wishing Robbie a wonderful birthday and many more years of major league success!
