James Street, Huston Street's Father and Former Longhorn QB Passes Away at 65

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

I'm sure many of you have heard this already, but sad news broke yesterday; Huston Street's father, James Street, passed away at the age of 65. It is being reported as an apparent heart attack.

For those of you who don't know, James Street went 20-0 as the starting QB for the Texas Longhorns and lead them to a National Championship in 1969 by defeating Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl, long before the BCS was implemented. Earlier that season he helped guide a comeback against Arkansas in what's remembered as one of the greatest college football games of all time. He was a key player in the advent and rise to prominence of the wishbone offense.

Yesterday, Huston commented, "My father left us this morning and we're trying to gather our thoughts. That's all I can say at this time."

James Street's legacy will always be tied to his success as one of the most prominent players in the history of one of our nation's most prominent college athletic programs. The Longhorns will honor Street by placing "JS" on the back of their helmets for the rest of the season. James Street was also a father of five, and a collegiate baseball player at Texas.

Our thoughts are with his family this week, including his son who pitches for us.
